Months have passed but I haven’t forgotten. In a multicultural society, we would like to pretend to be colour blind and be “inclusive” at all times. Yet, it’s quite evident that those of Anglo and Celtic descent simply are INCAPABLE of self-reflection. Their attention span is purely focused on the external world, obsessed with their status in their outdated hierarchy and constantly judging the lives of others.
I ask why is it that when quote on quote, “gwai los” walks into an oriental restaurant or any public venue run by Asians, they are immediately greeted with the kindest sincerity and given priority seating. When their own kind shows up to pay patronage, no one cares at all. Oh yeah, you could be homeless, unemployed, morbidly obese and stink of cottage cheese but as long as your skin pigmentation is white, we’ll give you premium customer service.
Delusional after watching Hollywood films, they will travel halfway across the world for the mere chance of entering “white society” or living their lifestyle, none of which are even attractive once your foot is in the door. Keep in mind, these are not even controversial topics like the existence of re-education camps in Xinjiang or debates regarding Taiwan’s sovereignty. These are employees that you willingly hired who will NOT show even the slightest respect towards their customers or even co-workers. I simply cannot imagine how one can go out of their way to commit time and energy to learn an entirely new language while accepting money from their customers and employers and yet not show even an ounce of respect towards them.
Since the beginning of the invasion, Ukrainians have been fleeing their country to seek refuge in Poland. POCs from Ukraine including Asians, Arabs and Africans were literally beaten and sent to the back of the line on multiple occasions:
‘There’s Poland, now walk’: Arab students’ ordeal out of Ukraine
Quoted from the article are first accounts from an Arab woman named Amani al-Attar.
“At this point, people were splayed on the ground with hypothermia. Others were collapsing from exhaustion. But that was just us Arabs, Black people and Asians. Ukrainians got through in minutes,” she said. Speaking from the warmth of her family home in Morocco, al-Attar said she hopes to one day overcome the trauma of her experience. But for now, “all I can say is the war showed us Ukrainians’ true colours.”
Why show courtesy towards those that deep down, still think of you as lesser humans even in the year 2022.
