True dat. What made me ready was being in Boston and trying to walk up stairs and everyone else was passing me by, including people over 60. I literally could not get enough air into my lungs that my body needed. They were too damaged or traumatized by smoking.
Then I read an article in the AMA called "Smoker's Face" talking about how doctors can tell if a woman over 30 smokes when she walks into the room, just by the premature aging on her face. ( I'd have to agree with that, I can see it too). That struck my vain side and that was it.
Also, please educate yourself about this addiction. Get on a quitters support forum. No one tells you you will have cravings for years. In the beginning, a lot and then over the years it tapers off as your cells figure out they won't be getting their fix and begin to calm down. 12 years later I get them once in a blue moon, but about 3 times a year it hits me, usually while watching a movie or someone else smoking.
Like any alcoholic, your cells are primed for this drug and it will be waiting for it always. Youhave cell receptors that want it, wait for it and sometimes try to get you to get it to them. You can never take that one sip or drink, for us it's a drag, or one cigarette. Don't ever do hat, resist the urge and then you will find yourself still off them 10 years later.
Smokers tend to wait for a non-stressful time in their life to quit. There will never be a perfect time to quit.
I will say that again; There will never be a perfect time to quit.
And that sock thing...I was so shocked and then hurt by it I could not respond. The student had told the owner of the place I taught out of. It was an affluent area, so I find it ironic someone with money seeking higher truth in spirituality dismissed someone due to their clothing and how they looked to them. I'm over it and see it for what it is, but at the time it was a drag.
