School Tuition

I have to put in my two cents worth! I'm a student in British Columbia, our program, like Jay-Hillman 's is very intensive. 3300 hour 3 year program with an optional fourth year degree program in health sciences. We don't get a mandatory cadaver lab but we do get therapeutic exercise, joint mobilizations, MFR, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, craniosacral, positional release, ROOD technique, muscle energy...etc etc etc as well as mandatory clinic hours and outreach/internship hours too! When I'm finished, my tuition alone will be a total of $23,270 NOT including books, table, linens, oils, or anything else for that matter...and not including the fourth year! I'm finishing up my third year now and I'm almost $50 k in debt. Are you still jealous?

Yeah, I knew it was really expensive in Canada to become an MT.

My A&P teacher is originally from up there and said that your training up there is much more intense than what we get down here, that it is at least, the equivalant to a 2 year degree here.

But, from what you typed, seems more like a traditional 4 yr undergrad degree.

Wow! I almost wish I was going to school up there, because I wouldn't feel so damn rushed & shoved through the system as I do here.

Trust me, you would still feel rushed up here. If not more so. It would be rushed for thirty full months instead of one year or two in some cases. Its a longer program but there is MUCH more information. We go into a lot greater picky detail as far as anatomy and physiology is concerned as well as pathology. I feel rushed every day ... not to mention stressed...
:shock: but all in all when I'm finished I can go anywhere in the world, write their board exams and work as a Registered Therapist there... Spain, here I come

I feel that in the end, you're definitely getting the better education up there. I just wish that the American school system would start to recognize how valuable MT is & bring it out of these corporate schools & into their cirriculum.

*sigh* I was supposed to be done in Feb w/ school, but because of the way that clinical applications is running right now, I won't be finished w/ that until March 30.

Gah! I was hoping to get my licensure taken care of by end of March, but I guess that won't be happening.... it's going to shove everything back a month, it looks like now.
