This is a valuable experience. I'd say, don't escalate the fight, but stay firm. "Aisa karoge toh next time kaun aayega?" usually works. They know that they will earn a few bucks now but lose a customer permanently.

Similar thing happened to me years back in bangalore. In my case i didn't know kannada that they spoke and i had a bike crash so my hands and forearms were also little bruised and black/blue(lol still wanted to monger ) they knew i am not from bangalore. had to take a girl..i had written about him and hinted his mobile number on a sister forum.

One must also be mindful that their MRP price tag is not written on their forehead, so newbies tend to overpay thinking that is the real rate. This is the whole reason forums like these exist to advice people about the ongoing rates, to keep the rates in check. Still people go there and overpay by 3X and on top of that pay a 500rs tip. This stupidity ruins the rates for everyone. If one has a higher budget, they should go to joints that match your budget.
