I've heard of consensual sex as a defense in rape cases, but I've never heard of consensual fighting. Is there really such a thing? I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like a joke to me.

You can't have a consensual street fight, felix is out to lunch. If anyone has ever boxed or fought MMA they've signed a fight contract, which contains clauses alluded to by greenberg.

If consensual fights existed I would KO half the posters on this forum.

Consensual fights exists, but you need a witness otherwise is your word against his at trial.
I had an issue with a motorist for being an asshole while driving and when we got to an intersection he spat on my mirror I got off the car and did not realize there was a cop 2 cars behind me. So he came to us and pull us over. After more word match I asked the cop of it was ok to fight the guy and he explained that both of us needed to agree and there has to be witnesses otherwise who ever gets hurt can sue and press charges for assault. So I politely asked the motorist if wanted to fight he agreed and as soon as he said that I kicked the shit out of him. After that we both got tickets for "blocking the box"
