You'll definitely need your brain while mongering around China's KTV so you don't overpay for services. Since you know all the hidden charges at most KTVs then it's best to save your money for Thailand. China's KTVs are a big scam because once you're in the KTV, the mamasan will call 3-4 girls to entertain you and try to get you to drink as much beer and liquor as possible and the girls get a commission on the drinks.

Just to clarify, it seems you're primarily speaking here of the soapy massage
parlors. I've been, though I generally don't frequent them. Though to offer
advice as far as pricing, I believe are in the ballpark and can possibly find as low as 1500. To comment, as far as the high you mentioned here regarding the sideline/model girls. I don't believe they are worth that amount, think the highest I would pay would be 2500.
I'm not a practicing overpayer.

Sorry, I only use my Brain at work, not in the pussy land. I never been to KTV in China, but in HK and Vietnam. There are lots hitting charge if you did not go to the right places. They can tell you the basic price to get you in, once you in the room, they keep bring all the thing you not order, op-en all the beers you not going to drink then the final bill that came out will be over $200. Done that in HK and Vietnam. Most of the place for two hours cost less than $50 including tip to the gilrls. That is another the reason I love Thailand, you know the price right up front 1500Bht, 1800bht and up 4000bht for for nice sildeline.

Since you know how to speak Chinese perhaps you should use that brain of yours and ask the KTV management how much you need to pay for 2 hours in KTV for beer and ask the locals there who speaks Chinese how much to tip. Why don't you use your brains again since you can speak Chinese and ask the locals mongers there if you can bring the massage or ktv girls to your hotel. You have shitloads of local mongers in Shenzhen who speaks Chinese and knows probably more about how things work in Shenzhen than the most of us on this thread and you waste your time logging on, post those questions, wait several hours or days for an answer.........still waiting...and still waiting.......wasting valuable mongering time when you can ask those same questions to local mongers in Shenzhen. I have been to Thailand many time, I agree girls are easy to find there. I also visit Vietnam many times, I think Viet Nam and China are the same. If you speak Vietnamese or Chinese, you have no problem findn any girls. Price even cheaper if you find the right places.

Going to Shenzhen in few months .I am new to the area. I speak chinese. I like to visit the local KTV and Massage, can any suggestion which places I shoudl go. I believe in China it is easier to find great quality girls if you have the dough. Thailand however is world famous for its sex industry and thus is more publicized and accessible to foreigners. Thailand is probably a better place to start for newbies

I actually don't think you're a native English speaker now and am back to thinking you're a Chinese native. If you couldn't figure out I meant that China has no GOOD beaches without me having to write that in the sentence then I really do dispair, I thought that would be a given to any English native that I meant that, of course China has beaches but I'm not going to even mention then if they're not good and none in China are hence why they get basiclaly zero tourists from abroad going to them. I could say New Jersey has no beaches in the context of recommending it as a vacation place, of course we know if does technically have beaches but they all suck so I wouldn't even mention them, the same as a lot of other places which do have coastline but the beaches are not fit to be classed as places to attract tourists (the UK being one such place - apologies to any brit guys, I worked there for a while and love you guys and think you have beautiful countryside, but your beaches suck)

What does that sentence say? If I read it and didn't know better, I would think China has no beaches. I just find it odd you would say that when there are a couple fairly close to HK in Yantian. If you think the Xiaomeisha beach is crap, then you've never been there. If you really think China is just for people who can't think of or afford to go anywhere else... well, you're entitled to your opinion. There is a new Sheraton Hotel opening in Yantian with it's own private beach. From what I saw, it's going to be very nice.

The really funny thing though is that right after you say "I like nice surroundings such as beaches which China simply doesn't have," in your very next post you mention the beaches at Hainan and Sanya!!! So obviously you know there are beaches in China, but why did you say there aren't any???

Yes, I understand sampling as well .... The original post mentions cases against the population, you need the number of test subjects to extrapolate for the entire population (unless the "cases" was extrapolated).

Actually, China has tons of beaches. If you're based in HK, you should know that Shenzhen across the border has a bunch of beaches in Yantian. There's also beaches on Hainan, and Xiamen to think of a couple.

The rest of your point though, is well taken. If you can't speak even basic Mandarin or unless you're with somebody who can, you won't have much fun if you enjoy talking to the girls. I also understand not everybody is into KTV and if you're not, then that avenue is also pretty much closed off. They say that China has the world's largest English speaking population.... what a lie.... If you come to China, fully expect that not a single native you meet will be able to say anything beyong, "hello, how are you."

If a quick fuck in KTV brothel is what you want then great go to China, but when on holiday I'd like to relax a bit more and spend a night or more with a girl, plus I like nice surroundings such as beaches which China simply doesn't have. Chinese women don't speak any English so whilst it may be easy-ish to find them in a KTV place (I hate these places, Karaoke sucks and there is never a fun attitude) if you want to take them home then unless you simply want sex and no communication then fine, but I prefer to actually be able to speak to a person if I'm spending the night with them. Thailand is just much more laidback and fun all-round

Here's something to consider....

Thailand = approx 600,000 cases of HIV with a population of about 60 million.

China = approx 600,000 cases of HIV with a population of 1.3+ billion.

That fact alone would decide it for me.

BTW, a better comparison would be Thailand V Philippines.

With respect, I disagree with posters who vote for Thailand for sure.

There is a lot to be said for China. The red rope experience is amazing (do a search for info on this). And, China is getting cheaper, relative to Thailand, due to Baht going up against Yuan. Also, Chinese massage is quite different from Thai, and, I think it may be better.

But, admittedly, Thailand is easier for anyone who does not speak the local language. Weather is crappy in both places, most of the year. Unless you like hot and very humid. China is much more polluted, amazingly so, although Bangkok has plenty too.

Either place, use board resources, have a great time!

Do you think it would be cost effective for me to hire a local interpreter that knows English/Mandarin? I'd be there for perhaps a couple weeks. They don't necessarily have to know about places, just to speak English.
