Your hands have a memory

I have always found it interesting how when I am working on a client, even if it has been a while, I find my hands have a memory.

They seem to remember how the body has felt before, how much pressure was given, the feel of the skin, what was tight, how tight it was, etc.

I guess it is something that has happened intuitively, but it always makes me smile to myself.

Anyone else experience this?

I am always surprised when I touch someone they go "Man, you know right where it hurts, how do you do that?"

I agree it is amazing how our hands know right where to go. I think its energy. The energy from a higher power going through our hands to the clients body. When I was in a Reiki class we would place our hands on the person where we thought the person needed worked on. For the most part we were right. My hands would be warm when I am touching an area that needs to be touched.

Just trust yourself and you will find your client will be satisfied with the massage.

Wow! I thought it was just a "quirky" thing some of my friends said - but I think there's some truth to that (the energy thing!). Very cool.

For some reason, I just think that since I know origins and insertions of muscles, I know where to check to find "those spots". I check the most likely places and VOILA, there are THE SPOTS that hurt!

Too logical, perhaps ------ I chuckle too when each person comments on the magical ability I have to find their hurts, but I'm laughing at myself really. It's not magic if you know where to look.

I guess working in a medical setting has me a little leary of talking about the magic of bodywork ---- I make no comments about energy fields to clients even if I feel them.
