Working as a male masseur

Hi again

Just one more question .As i wrote in my last post i am thinking of doing a holistic massage course. The question is how easy is it for qualified male masseurs to find work .I was thinking along the lines that there are probably plenty of men who would rather receive a massage from a female therapist and plenty of women as well .

You will stand or fall on your ability to sort out the people who visit you not on your sex, people do often have a preference but that takes a back seat when they are in trouble and need sorting out quickly so they can get out of pain and back to work

I know plenty of male therapists Dazza, and they seem to do just as well in their profession and success wise as the female ones I know. As Paul says it's down to you doing a good job and helping the people you see. Don't worry, if you feel it's your calling go for it, and good luck to you!

Hi there,

It is certainly a consideration, but as others have said your reputation will draw people to you.

That being said I made the deliberate choice to train as an On Site Acupressure therapist specifically because it is delivered to fully clothed clients in semi public places such as the workplace.

Hi All

Thanks to everyone who has replied to my posts . I have booked my Reiki 1 course on the 17th of July in Cologne and i am really looking forward to it. I will definitely be studying massage once i get back to the UK. Decided i needed to get away from the current job(IT) and get out there and hopefully do something that will help people.

Hey Dazza,

Great to hear you have taken the plunge and booked onto a course. As a male therapist I initially had the same fears as you, but haven't encountered any problems with either male or female clients.

Actually I am in the same situation as you, work in IT and looking to leave as soon as possible!
