Woohoo!! I start school in just under two weeks but...

I was talking to a friend of mine who has been an RMT for a long time and she expressed some concern for me because my basic program is only three months long with two extra months for intern time.
I will be attending class five hours a day four days a week, so a total of 20 hours a week and the classes are broken down by subject.

I've been gearing up for school since last summer, and already bought all of my books, scrubs, holsters, etc. I have just been counting down and saving a little money here and there to make sure I could cover my tuition.

Should I be worried? I feel like I am bright enough to retain the information that I will receive, but now I am nervous.

DandyKisses, my training here in WI was 650 hours (although my MT school was the only school in WI that offered that high of an amount at the time, which was about 9 years ago). It was about 22 hrs per week for 6.5 months, including student clinic, with a few weekend intensives thrown in. (Many of the programs at the schools offered at the time, were 500 hr courses which were offered 1 day per week for over a year!) You can always ask on the board if there are any graduates of your MT school here...

Each school has it's own program and it's usually designed to follow your state's requirements for registration or licensure. As I recall the requirements in TX used to be sort of low, but they may have increased in the last couple of years. I know there are several fine Texan MTs here on the board who may be better able to answer your questions and who may be of more encouragement to you as you start out on your new career.

Don't be worried. You know what you want and you know how to get there! Study hard. Be prepared for the worst. Learn your anatomy. Practice whenever you can get your hands on someone. Use this forum for support and great study tips and info! And, ask your RMT friend if sh'e be willing to mentor you on an every-two week basis. That should help tons!


Oh, and since they aren't giving out temp licenses for Texas anymore... be prepared to not be able to work for a few months when you are done.

And, for the exam... check out this info I wrote up some time ago. I do believe you may not have to go take the written section in Ausint anymore, but are allowed to take it via computer test at a local testing site.... so when you get to that point, please take a moment to add to this thread: Texas state test
