Which Chamomile?

Which variation of Chamomile is your favourite and why?

When I did my training, we only used Chamomile Maroc which apparently isn't a true chamomile but has similar properties to the other variations and is a lot cheaper! I now use Roman Chamomile a lot and I think it smells much better and I use it frequently. I haven't smelled or used German Chamomile yet so I cannot comment on that variation so I suppose Roman Chamomile is my favourite. I use it mainly for inflammation although I know German Chamomile is a better anti-inflammatory (I think I might have to get one soon).

I always use Roman Camomile, because I prefer the smell as it has quite a delicate smell and blends nicely with other essential oils. It's useful at this time of year for the seasonal allergies. I drink the tea too and use the tea bags on my eyes when they get itchy.

The German Camomile smells quite strong and is a bit overpowering, so I don't use it as often, but like to have a small amount, say 5mls, in the collection. It has a higher percentage of chamazulene, which as you say is anti-inflammatory, externally in compresses for abscesses, boils, carbuncles, infected cuts, splinters, earache, toothache.

I haven't used the Camomile Maroc as much, preferring the more effective, in my view and nicer aroma of Roman Camomile - an oil I wouldn't be without.

I don't actually like any of the camomiles so I don't use them! I've got both German and Roman in the collection, but they do overpower a blend and I can't stand the smell!

I'm not keen on the smell of either Roman or German, but would never not use an effective oil (on clients) just because I didn't like this smell. I generally use Roman in skin blends, after shaving my legs to stop ingrowing hairs and for stomach spasms. I do use German on areas of muscular/skeletal pain.

I've never come across using Roman Chamomile to stop ingrowing hairs....how's this supposed to happen?!

Lavandula, we met on the Pregnancy and Essential Oils course in Newport! (I'm Sarah White and was there on holiday with my hubby and young daughter). FAB things have happened to me since that course...did it prove useful for you too?

bump2babybliss, It's a small world isn't it! Did you enjoy the rest of your holiday? Yes I remember you. It was a great course and I learnt so much. The course made me feel so much more confident with using essential oils - not just in pregnancy! I've started advertising pregnancy massage but I haven'd had a client for it yet (well not since the course anyway). Have you?

I've not heard of the Roman Cham helping ingrowing hairs either. Will have to give that a try.

I blend it with some lavender into a base lotion and use it straight after shaving. It definitely works.
