Where to find these massage tables online

Hi Everyone

I've been reading through the old posts giving advice on buying massage tables and I can't find a uk website for Sallys or Costco. Did you guys go to a particular store I wonder, rather than buying on the net?

I live in London, but would be prepared to travel (within reason) to stores further afield.

It is an expensive business, but I really want to get a couch that is of good quality and suitable for massage, reflexology, ihm, reiki etc.... well, I guess I'm after a multi-purpose portable couch.

Also, when I've been looking on the net, I have only seen some special offers. I keep hearing about discounts that are available, but I can't seem to find them. Am I looking in the wrong places? Is this something that is offered instore only?

And finally, can anyone recommend a supplier where you can pay in installments? I can't seem to find this on the web either

Oh lordy, I think I am suffering from 'repetetive web surfing injury', my eyes have gone googley so please forgive me if the info has been in front of me all along. It's all a blur after a while...........

Have you looked on E-bay, for a couch, prices vary from £50.00-£100.00, some are brand new.

Hello,

Yes, I've looked on Ebay, but to be quite honest, the prices ultimately don't seem to be that far off from the shop price (alot of the sellers are shops) and for the added peace of mind of going to a shop, rather than risking it on Ebay (I've heard too many stories where people didn't get their goods) I think I'd be better off paying a little more.

What do you think?

My table is suitable for all the things you mention, being portable, height adjustable, back that comes up and down etc etc.

(ps I think that Costco don't have a website - they are a cash-and-carry (there is a big one in Watford) but not just any one can go there - you have to be a member, and to be a member you either have to belong to a professional organisation and have accounts, or be an employee of one of their listed companies. I tried to join a couple of years a go and didnt get very far.....not sure if things are any better now!)

It's such a huge expense, especially if you're not earning.

What do people think re face holes versus tclip on face cradle with an armrest underneath? I can't decide which would be more comfortable/ portable.

There is also a Costco in Edmonton and if you can find someone else who's a member, you won't have to join yourself, as long as they go with you.

In my experience, a lot of people don't like faceholes - they find them a bit claustrophobic. A face cradle is more comfortable, with the added benefit of extending the table for very tall people.

I am lucky in that my table has both a face hole, and a face cradle that tucks away neatly underneath when it is not needed.

I have to say that I rarely use the face cradle, unless the client is very tall. I find that if you place a small flattish pillow or folded towel over the top part of the face hole for the clients forehead to rest on, it is much more comfortable, less claustrophobic,and they dont have the "donut" face when they get up!!!

I can imagine face cradles and armrests adding to the weight and being a tad more cumbersome to lug around...?

Yep, mine is portable, fits into a nice blue zip-up bag (do wish I'd spent the extra £10 for the wheels sometimes...............!)

The face cradle weighs next to nothing, and sort of sits underneath in elastic straps, then into holes in the opposite end to the face hole end of the table (does that make sense??!!)

I do not have arm rests though, never felt them necessary as clients usually lay with arms alongside their body.

The Costco site only lists products for the US www.costco.com, but you can phone up Costco and ask them to search, they won't give you a price unless you are a member - they used to supply Masterlite couches - I bought mine from Costco Edmonton and it was a snip at £185.

Just read your discussion about Ebay. I bought my couch from a very nice lady who advertised on ebay. It was in brilliant condition with a face hole and she supplied the armrests and a towling cover. The whole thing, including carriage, was £180. It arrived 2 days after I purchased it. That's pretty good going for a bulky thing like that. I use Ebay a lot to buy and sell and I find, on the whole, most people are very trustworthy and friendly, but perhaps I have just been lucky!

Also, concening the face hole. I made a ring by rolling up an old (very clean) towel, made two removeable covers and sewed some thin ribbon on both ends so it can be tied up into a circle to fit over the face hole. All my clients find it very comfortable. It raises there faces above the actual couch which is also much better for the alignment of the neck and no-one gets up looking like a doughnut! i went to a health fair and found mine. there were loads of suppliers there and i asked them all a load of questions. if u do this it also helps to take a friend so u can try it out with someone on it. i bought one from beautelle that im really happy with. its great for everything that i use it for.

They are expensive but I always recommend Earthlite from IPM - www.injuryprevention.org.uk and you can pay 9months interest free.

Hi there

Like Foz I have an earthlite couch and can't recommend it enough. They are a little more expensive but compared to my previous couch which no-one complained about at the time, my clients can't sing its praises it enough and can't believe how comfortable it is. There are several types to chose from, loads of colours and also the accessories as well. Mine is with the head rest which most seem to prefer and also the arm sling thingy. I ummed and ahhed about the arm thing but I would say 75% of clients actually use it and think its a really good idea. However, if they have never used one before I expect they would not miss it.

Hope this helps although you are probably totally confused now as you have had so many responses!

Sorry I've left it so long to reply. I've been really busy studying.

I did go for an Earthlite couch from Injury Prevention. They are extemely nice people and have gone out of their way to help me get the couch that was right for me. I'm very happy with it. It's big, it's green, it's SO comfy and I LOVE IT! It has extra deep covering, width and length, and has a very comfy face cradle.

Having a lifetime guarantee was very important too. It wasn't cheap, so to know it's covered for life rather than just a few years is good piece of mind.
