where to buy massage lotion?

Hello all

just wanted to pick some brains about buying massage lotion - I trained with oils and enjoy using them but also enjoy using lotion as do many of my clients as they are less tacky at the end of their treatment!

Anyway, I know Biotone are supplied by MTS but haven't tried it - does anyone know what its like?

Also, if Paul Crick is reading this...I can't get access to the lotion store you used to have vias your site and wanted to check out prices etc?

I have taken it down for the moment as I am in the process of revamping the blend and adding honey to it, it can take a while to get it right so it might be down for a while

A favourite of a lotof us seems to be the totally organic body/massage waxes made by Tui (www.tuitrading.co.uk)

They come in various types both perfumed and unfragranced, and are great. Good slip, especially for the more hirsute men, and nourishes the skin - contains vitamin E amongst other things. Sinks in well, and any excess is easily wiped off without the oiliness.

Can I just echo Karen's comment about the Tui Balmes and Massage Wax - they are fantastic. I love them and my clients love them. And there is no mess with them either, just lovely soft silky smooth gliding and skin.

If you give the MTS a call they will send you a set of trial sizes lotions and creams, just a collection of mini-bottles to allow you to work out which you do and don't like.

Mmmmmm...just been to the Tui site and they all look yummy!!


I've applied for the trade / wholesale bit so looking forward to trying them.

It s just a shame I'm not qualified in aromatherapy as obviously I can't used those waxes infused with essential oils on clients for insurance purposes...they sound so good!

Unscented it will have to be, but they still look good - are they the consistency of wax or somewhere between that and cream?

I am not an aromatherapist either - and you can use the infused blends!

As long as you are not blending them yourself, you can use any bought pre-blends for your clients. I am led to believe that the concentrations of the essential oils is much much lower for these, so you are unlikely to have any side effects with them.

I do still only use pure carrier oils for anyone I have any doubts about - eg eczema or pregnancy, but other than that, both the clients and I enjoy the wonderful aromas of the waxes - the relaxation one is bliss.

Well I didn't realise that!

Thinking about it, I suppose its similar to Hopi Ear Candles - they're infused with essential oils but in controlled ratio / quantities so that you don't need to be an aromatherapist to use them on clients.

I have been told that even pre-prepared massage blends are a no-no insurance wise, could anyone clarify that?

I would love to use the waxes infused with essential oils because the clients appreciate a lovely smell and so do I!!!

You welcome.

Best thing to do about using them is to call your insurers, different firms and policies will have different restrictions. What is ok with mine may be different with yours.

As to the consistency question, its magical. The wax in the tub isn't hard, its quite soft - you just scoop out the desired amount with your finger(s). As soon as you rub it in your hands or on the clients body it melts and spreads so easily and so far. My fave one is the Mountain Forest or Rose - both smell divine.

Oh, one quick word of advice - it is worth asking your clients if they are vegan (same for your Hopi Ear Candles) - they contain beeswax so suitable for vegetarians, but not vegans.

Sorry Foz, that would be a definite 'no no' for me. Double dipping in pots used on clients can cause cross contamination - always use a spatula.

I was thinking about that very issue last week Lesley, about how to get around it. Naturally you are quite correct - cross-contanination not at all good. However I would find using a spatular a bit of a nightmare, - taking the pot and spatular with me and getting the wax out of the pot would severly dissrupt the flow of the treatment.

So how to get around this? And of course the same problem exists for those who use pots of Massage Cream too. My solution, buy the largest size of the wax you can afford / think you can use and then have some small empty "treatment pots". Using a clean spoon / spatula remove as much as you think you will need into the pot and then you can carry on with fingers scooping out the wax. If you find you need some more simply add some more using clean spatulas to the treatment pot.

Then at the end of your treatment you thoroughly wash / clean the treatment pot.

Yes, Foz, decanting (as we do for oils) is probably the best way around the health and safety issue.

Good news Mat, I have samples from both MTS and Tui winging their way to me so shall have a great time trying them...tho' I must say I am biased towards Tui now!
