What so bad about going sweedish socialism?

Sweden doesn't have nearly the baggage that the US does, not nearly the kind of entitlement programs that the US has to deal with. It wouldn't be like in Sweden.

Socialism is great, I don't have to do anything, I can sit here and wait for my government paid nurse to bring me my next government purchased beer and weed. Oh I forgot the best part I get to sleep 14 hours every night and I haven't worked a day in 3 years. If I could find a way to get them to go to the bathroom for me I'm sure they would do that for me too heck they are doing everything else for me even bought this huge house for me, I expect my mail order bride next week and she will love me like something from a sweedish porn movie.

Swedish socialism is fine – for the Swedes. But Sweden is a small country with only about 9 million people and its population is homogenous. We are a country with over 300 million people and our population is very diverse. What works in one set of circumstances will seldom work well in a very different set of circumstances.

Swedes may be “generally happy†with their government, but they are constantly griping about the high taxes they pay and their vaunted health care system. They also have a high suicide rate for such a “happy†country, but that may be due to their long, dark winters, which tend to depress many people.

Many more countries have tried to emulate our economic model than Sweden’s. Even communist China and Russia have introduced major elements of capitalism into their economies because capitalism provides incentives for hard work. China has been much more successful at it than Russia. One reason for this is that the Chinese have always had to work hard to survive. The Russians have not been as successful because almost all living Russians have lived their lives in a nanny state and don’t have our work ethic (which is deteriorating). Unless a country has vast natural resources, somebody has to work. Saudi Arabia’s oil industry is populated with immigrants, many of them from India. The Saudi people live off government largesse.

I don’t wish ill on the Russians, but when its oil starts to run out its economy will be in deep trouble.

Be careful what you wish for because, once you start down a certain road, it is very difficult to turn back.

BTW, a Swedish worker does not have the same standard of living as an American worker with a comparable job. Japan has no natural resources, but because of its people’s work ethnic, it has been a major economic success since World War II.

BTW, have you given any thought to going Venezuelan socialism?

Yeah but the difference is we're a world, economic and military power house while they are not. We're pretty much in the news every single day around the world. I mean really when was the last time you heard about Sweden?

America is known as the land of opportunity. You can come here with nothing and die with everything and people have done that many times. Thats what makes America great because here your the master of your destiny, you can do whatever the hell you want and no one will tell you other wise.

So move! That's NOT what this country is about and we shouldn't "go socialist" unless we have an open debate on it and take a vote. It shouldn't simply be done because the President wants it that way, particularly when he never mentioned he was a socialist and only got 53% of the vote---hardly a mandate.

But the main problem is the US is a very different country than Sweden in many many ways. You also can't just impose mass socialism on a country that has been functioning differently for many many years either.
