what kind of massage is this?

I just came back from Tunisia in northern for a vacation and while I was there I decided to go get a massage. However the experience was far from what I expected. First I had to strip completely naked with only a towel to wear then my maseusse was also a guy wearing only a towel. I thought it's no big deal it's how the culture is done.

Then it got really uncomfortable, he started by massaging my PECS in an upward/downwards motion while cupping his hands around them, then at one point he massaged the side of my chest with sort of a gentle rubbing motion, it was relaxing but extremely uncomfortable. Does anybody know what kind of massage is this? is it some form of traditional massage.

The fact that you were only draped is no big deal. The fact that he was draped as well is a little weird, but....

I've had masage therapists work on the pecs a great deal, it's quite common in people with upper back/shoulder pain. Sometimes it can be quite tight because some folks store muscle tension there, especially if there is poor posture. I'm not sure if that is the sort of 'uncomfortable' you mean though. Massage is great stuff, but next time let them know what you aren't comfortable with, alright?

I am a student of Massage and from what you have described is normally not done here but I think I understand what he was doing. You have muscles that do run underneath the chest area and the upward and downward motions was probably similar to the relaxation massage called Swedish Massage with some kneading also of the Pecs.

And dont feel uncomfortable with stripping down for a massage, some massage therapist will drape with a towel while others drape with a sheet. That is not unusual fo be draped with a towel although I assume it was his culture for him to wear a towel. As long as he didnnot do anything inappropriate, I wouldnt worry about it. There are many forms of massage and in different countries, it may be done differently. I am glad to hear that it was relaxing though. There are many benefits with massage and I hope that did not discourage you from any further treatments.
