Hi All,

I just thought I'd share this story with you and ask what you think....

Last Saturday I had a treatment (which is a real treat as being a massage therapist I don't often get treated!) at a clinic that was new to me. The slot booked was for a 2 hour hot stone massage.

However, it turned out to be a bit of Hot Stone, a bit of Swedish Massage, a bit of Lymphatic Drainage, Aromatherapy and Indian Head all rolled into one. I'm not complaining - it was heaven!!

BUT the Therapist didn't go through any type of consultation with me. She didn't ask what I did for a living or if I had any aches and pains or if I had any digestive problems or other diseases. She just jumpted straight in. I did manage to tell her about my general aches and gripes but only because I volunteered the info. She also wore surgical gloves throughout the treatment which I hadn't heard of before.... it didn't feel all that different to be honest, I just thought it was odd!

I have to say that I did feel better afterwards but it concerned me that other clients who have little experience of therapies wouldn't know they had to tell her of any disorders or conditions they may have.

Strange one, eh??

Hi there

It does seem strange.....and not very professional, I would always have a consultation and ask health questions.....did they have a record card or nothing at all?

And the gloves, well that is a very hard one to answer....maybe she had contra - indications?

surgical gloves are a big no no for me....just my opinion though....the difference i think is you went for a treat and not a "fix" treatment however I also keep client records and would not be comfortable with anyone who didnt....my one concern here though is the use of essential oils without a treatment....bad very bad...

I agree, it is very poor. I have had a similar experience in a clinic at my gym. One of the girls is brilliant at the massage itself, but doesn't ask any questions or even what you want from the massage. All you tell her is whether you want half an hour, 45 minutes, an hour or an hour and a half and she does what she wants in the time, unless you specify which bits you want done.

Hi,

I'm glad you all thought it was strange too. I've only been doing massage for about 1 year but had this horrible feeling I'd missed something somewhere!

The only details that were taken were when I phoned up and booked the appointment and they asked me address, telephone number and date of birth but that was it. Bizarre!

yes I think so too, a bit unprofessional
as for the gloves.... I have seen foks use them due to axcema and sweaty plams......
