What certificates do you need to give massage to the public?

Apart from a CRB check, are there any specific certificates that I would need if I were to visit people in their houses, carehomes, perhaps hospitals to give not-for-profit or volunteer indian head massages and/or foot massages?
I have found a workshop for indian head massage at a local community college, but do I need a certain qualification to cover me legally so that I'm aware of what kind of people shouldn't receive such kind of treatment etc etc?

What on earth makes you think you need a CRB check? You would only need that if you have regular, unsupervised access to children and vulnerable people and were employed by an organization who worked with them.

Demanding a CRB check for any other reason is actually against the law and you should refuse to have one.

Nope, you don't need anything in the UK.

What is a good idea is 3rd party indemnity insurance. A couple of million cover should be enough

You probably need Public Liability Insurance and ideally a certificate from an examining body such as ITEC.
You can practise without these, but if something goes wrong, you could end up being sued.

A basic qualification should be ok if you have been taught right, but please be careful, make sure you know your anatomy and you really know what you are doing! I don't want to sound pretentious but there are too many people fumbling around and not providing people with the service they need, this in turn holds back complimentary therapy. You'll need liability insurance and a massage therapy license from your state.

Do an online search for your state's requirements for massage therapy licenses. Typical requirements are completing a massage therapy education program of 500 to 800 hours from a recognized school, completing 50 practice massages in a supervised setting, passing a background check, and passing either the MBLEx or NCBTMB licensing exam.

It depends on the state where you live. In some states massage therapists need to be licensed annually, but not all states. In this state it costs $200 a year for the certificate to be a
"certified massage therapist".

Qualifications don't cover you legally against anything, and you don't need one to do treatments of this kind. However, if you are doing anything involving the public you should certainly be insured, and most reputable insurance companies will want to see some sort of evidence of training. A certificate from your college should be enough. Insurance for this type of practice is not expensive,and it would be foolish to go ahead without it.
