The contra actions in massage are as follows:
Erythema (reddening of the skin)
Frequent trips to the toilet
Hightened emotions (laughing, crying)
Nausea
Feeling of being 'drunk'
Cold/ shivery/ sweating more
Tired/ sleepy
Vivid dreams or disturbed sleep pattern
Headache
Thirst
Aching or soreness in the muscles
All these contra-actions are temporary usually lasting up to 48 hrs but it is important to inform the client they may experience any of these (in a leaflet will do). They should also be given the appropriate aftercare advice so they can gain the full benefit from the treatment.
