I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this 4 Day Course for Massage Therapists course?

I first heard of the course from a therapist at a Complimentary Health Centre I worked at before it sadly closed. The course looks really interesting, and being able to massage during pregancy would be such a wonderful priviledge and experience.

What experience have people had offering forms of pregancy massages and what training did you do?

No direct experience with this particular setup, but have completed a post grad preg course and I work on pregnant women all the time and it is just lovely and a real privilege...

I was taught that pregnancy is not itself a contra indication to massage, except during the first three months, when the stomach area should be avoided.

As such, I have massaged pregnant woman without any specialist training, I think it is a real pleasure and something I enjoy.

Obviously, there needs to be alot of thought put into the consultation before, during and after the treatment. I also make sure I have many cushions, bolsters etc to ensure comfort throughout. I never make a client lay flat on their back, instead work from side to side, and if necessary, a client can sit on a stool and lean against my couch supported by pillows.

I certainly think it is an advantage having been pregnant myself 3 times, as I know what positions I found comfortable/uncomfortable, and what is and isnt safe and practical.

Having said that, I am hoping to do the course run by http://www.btinternet.com/~wellmother/massage.htm also at some point - it is a bookmark for me - I llok at it regularly and wonder how I can wangle the time and money to do it!!

I agree with all K says.

I have no specific training but have never had a problem massaging pregnant women from the get-go to late pregnancy and used somebody who was 7 months for my aroma case studies.

I don't wish to deride those with specific training but i have never found the need to do it. I have had really good results. Women fast asleep sitting against the couch and saying they never relaxed so much and others with terrible low back ache that was relieved and didn't return which was really rewarding.

A lot of it is knowing how to give a good massage and how to make them comfortable. Go for it. They feel great afterwards and you get a lot of reward knowing that you made them more comfortable.

Unless there is problems with the pregnancy then massage is not a problem and you just need to apply common sense, as has already been said it is not a contra indication and you just don't do heavy taportment on the stomach the rest is the same apart from when the bump gets to big
