warming oil and.....

as a follow on from a subject on the massage forum about warming oil.... I think that would be a lovely touch in the colder months when doing massage, but would you be able to add essential oils to the oil or would it lead to the e.oils evaporating at a faster rate?

any ideas? does anyone do this? I would be really interested to hear

would be OK, otherwise whats the point in adding them to a bath?

one of the treatments I learnt with Bharti Vyas, was a hot oil treatment. You had dosha-type oils heated in a baby warmer and it had a lid with a dispenser on it, (bit like sauce bottle from a chippy) and you literally turned the bottle upside down and moved it up and down the body, drenching the body in warmed oil.

They do that on the slavic massage course as well. I personally have never used cold oil since picking this wee tip up.

Also, espec with the cold times a comingI always start off a full body massage with two hot cloths over the soles of the feet then wipe the soles and the front with both the cloths. Clients love that as a start to a treatment. Oh and also do the feet with hot cloths prior to reflexology too.

I keep some hand cleanser near and give my hands a quick rub in an unobtrusive manner before getting down the the actual massage and reflexology.

just to say that I warmed the oil today just by standing the bottle in a cup of hot water for a few minutes before starting the massage and the client thought it was really nice as it was a bit chilly this morning especially out of the sun

now looking for a bottle warmer if I can get a second hand one rather than buy a new one although they are not that expensive new.

when I did some freelance work at a well known spa, they did a welcome ritual to start all of their treatments.
this consisted of taking 2 steamed mitts, adding a drop of essential oil (usually ylang ylang or rosewood), rubbing them together, and then applying them to the feet, ankles and a little of the legs.

I had a massage in the Carribean where the oils were warmed up before being applied, but it was so hot there anyway that I would have found the cooler oil more refreshing.

I have often placed my bowl on the radiator top just to warm it up. Other times i have found that my hot little mits seem to warm the oil up for me and have often been asked did I warm the oils when I have just placed them in my hands.

I use the base of an oil burner with a stainless steel pot (think its for cutlery really!) I either put in hottish water to start or leave the pot and oil in my sauna to warm up for free!!

The oil burner just keeps the temperature up nicely. Of course you must follow the golden rule of not applying the oil directly to the client, its especially important here just incase the oil is a little warmer than expected.
