Voluntary Work

I was wondering if anyone had done any voluntary work in a hospice and if they could give me any information about it.

I applied to my local hospice to do volunteer work, & was invited for an interview and then for the induction process, which was done over 3 afternoons. I did reflexologyfor the outpatients, and latterly to some of the in-patients. I was there for 3 hours a week. In all I was there for 22 months, but then developed breast cancer and devoted time to myself. I have not gone back, as I became too busy in my private practice. There were plenty of people to take my place. I may go back in a few years. I would recommend hospice work to anyone.

I don't work in a hospice, I do voluntary work on the pre & post breast op ward - but I am a volunteer with a local charity that does have therapists in hospices. I would certainly approach a hospice, but also check out what support they offer volunteers as the work is very rewarding, but can be harrowing sometimes

Hi Jabba the Hut - many thanks for your reply.After looking after other people for 22 months you deserve some time to look after yourself. You sound very positive and I hope you are keeping well after your illness. You have given me inspiration. Thank you.

Funnybunny - Iam getting in touch with the hospice on Wed has the person I need to speak to is on holiday. I will ask about support from them when I speak to her. Many thanks for you reply.
