Virus causing hormonal inbalances

Hi all,

Wondering if any of you Reflexologists have ever heard of a Virus which causes hormonal inbalances contributing to PCOS??

Afriend who has PCOS and is seeing a Reflexologis has been told that her PCOS is due to a virus with no name, that G.Ps don't know how to treat so don't recognise it, The Therapist also told her that she was contagious to other woman and would be for two years. She should not make any life changing decisions and the virus would affect her thought process.!!!

I'm a Reflexologist myself and also suffer from PCOS. (my friend lives in another part of the country) I have never heard of such a virus and can't imagine what would make a trained therapist (she's AoR qualified) say such a thing.

Any comments or advice as to what she might be taking about much apprieciated !! My friend has enough to worry about trying for a baby without worrying about some virus with no name and the possibility of passing it on to every woman in her area!!!

Hi,

This is the sort of thing that gives holistic therapies a bad name - makes me cross ! It is a load a clap trap in my opinion - I have been a Reflexologist for 10 years.

It is bad enough when doctors bandy the word 'virus' about willy nilly.
Please assure your friend that she is NOT contagious and that she does not need to be concerned about this mystery virus.
And I would also suggest she reconsider who she visits for her treatments !

I feel just as cross as you....... I've had a look at this therapist web-site, she even has a paragraph on how "most hormonal problems are caused by this Virus" She apparently "specialises in hormonal problems and infertility".

Having infertility problems is such a stressful issue. It makes me so angry that she would behave in this way.....her misguided advice only adds to the stress my friend is going through. My friend was happy with the treatment up to that point and had received several treatments from her - at £30 a go - it makes me wonder about her motives ?????

She had gone to this therapist because she "specialised" in infertility problems!!! You would have thought a qualified therapist would have been more sensitive to such an important and difficult problem as infertility.

I have only just decided to join the forum after reading your message. I can't believe that your friend has been advised that this is the cause of the PCOS. As an ex-sufferer myself, I know how distressing this is. Fortunately, I now have this problem under control, and would be only too pleased to let you know how I managed it if it would help your friend and you.

Hi Bdfy & Ru,

Any tips gratefully received..... I'm blessed to have a 2 year old boy, conceived with the help of acupuncture, reflexology, agnus castus, saw palmtto and chronium. Still take the herbal stuff and try to get some reflexology now and then (like most therapists give a lot but don't receive so much!!!!) I try to watch what I eat, as we have to keep an eye on our blood sugar cos of the IR. Not so great with the regular exersise - not enough hours in the day.

Bdfy - What did you do to control your symptoms? I am seeing more and more people with PCOS - it seems to be more common these days - perhaps as a result of our bad western diet - too many carbs and sugar!!!

Thanks for the kind welcome. This is a 'first' for me, as I've never joined any forums, but when you've experienced something as devastating as PCOS, you want to share your feelings. I'll just let you know a bit of my 'PCOS' background. I had one child, no problems, but after coming off the pill to try for another a couple of years later, no periods for six months. I was diagnosed with PCOS and was told, quite brutally by my doctor, that I would never have children again! Then I put on 3 stone, had acne and generally felt a wreck. I started with hormone injections to encourage egg production and that failed. Then I was told it would have to be IVF, but at this point I thought if it was not meant to be, so be it.

However, the Universe brought me into contact with an allergy therapist, who used the VEGA machine. She found that I had parasites in my endometrium, which we cleared with a parasite cleanse. We also found that I was oestrogen dominant, so I started to use Serenity progesterone cream, available from Jersey, and a supplement called Life Enhancer from Neways International. My periods returned regularly (every 26 days!), I lost the 3 stone and my skin cleared up. Unfortunately, by then I decided it was too late to start trying again for another baby. I do still have the occasional blip, but that's because I've forgotten to use the progesterone cream or because there's a parasite in my endometrium again (which I've usually picked up from my dog). However, I just do another parasite cleanse or use a new machine I've just bought called a Zappatec, which kills off parasites, viruses and bacterias.

After all this, I decided to retrain in reiki, allergy testing and dowsing - so in every way it was a life changing event! I hope this business with parasites doesn't sound too off the wall, because it certainly made a big difference to my life.

Hi,

This is my first post on HP by the way and I am furious about what has happened to your friend it is absolutey outragous what happend to our Reflexologist mantra WE DO NOT DIAGNOSE, we also DO NOT PRESCRIBE.
What is this woman thinking of telling your friend such things? I to am a Reflexologist and massage theapist and a PCOS sufferer I hope you ladies are getting a better deal than I got I was just told that I was too old to treat ! It was diagnosed late in my life and luckily I have two beautiful children a boy and a girl (grown up now) but I can never wear a backless evening gown as my back is severly scarred from the years of acne. The weight gain and hair problems have never gone away I am just hoping this will be resolved after the menopause.
Please tell your friend to find another reflexologist at once I would love to see the website though. I personnally will be glad when there is a national register for all therapists because I feel that until this time the public are open to this sort of nonsense.

Can you catch cancer?
That is possible because cervical cancer is spread by a virus called HPV, or human papilloma virus. You can catch it by sleeping with somebody who has it, so women with more sexual partners are more likely to get it. The vaccine does not act against cancer per se, but protects against the virus which causes it. Which makes cervical cancer, effectively, an infectious disease.

The research in linking viruses to cancers are in its early stages. There are some instances where PCOS and cancer run side by side so it will be interesting to see whether PCOS will also have that link also.

I could not believe what I was reading!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with what Auriel says, as should all Reflexologists.

This so called Reflexologist should, inmy opinion, be reported to the AoR. I am a qualified Reflexologist, to AoR standard and I would hate for this wonderful organisation and all associated with it (such as me) to be given such bad press because of one individual.
