Using warm oil in massage

Hi just wanted to pick your brains if I can...

I am a mobile massage therapist and I would like to use warm oil in some of my treatments and I wondered what might be the safest way to do this?
Do any of you use warm oil and if so how do you go about it?

Hi,

I've used warm oil during the winter months. I decant some oil into smaller bottles and then put the bottle in a cup of hot water for a few minutes. Seems to be warm enough.

I use a baby bottle warmer with an adjustable temperature..to make sure it doesnt get too hot

To be honest, can't really see the point as oil warms up immediately on contact with the hands (and, presumably, cools down pretty quickly after being removed from heat source).
Or do you pour hot oil straight on to the skin?

Hi

My clients love the feeling of warm oil. I use a homemade warmer which consists of the base from an old candle "powered" oil burner with (of all things) a stainless steel cutlery pot with a couple of inches of water inside. I put the oil container (plastic squeezy type) in that. It works really well.

I must say that I would never apply oil straight to the client's skin. This would be dangerous (if too hot) and must be avoided.

I have to say that the extent to which rubbing oil in your hands heats it up as oppossed to using some form of heating is not really comparable. Certainly the clients notice and appreciate the difference.

Hi, thanks for all your replys. I think I'll give the baby bottle warmer idea a go, thanks for that Candy. I love the feeling of the warm oil when I'm having a massage and your right Simon rubbing oil in your hand to warm it is nowhere near as nice as it being properly warmed.

Love the baby bottle warmer, and at only £12.99 from Boots a good price. Warming the oil by rubbing your hands won't really heat it up very much, it may bring it to nearer your body temperature. You need friction to cause heat and you are using the oil to reduce friction.

The feeling of warm oil being drizzled over you is *very* nice!

never thought to look in Boots, only looked in mothercare and they were £20
will go into town tommorrow - have been using a mug of water with the oil in it but doesnt look too professional

I love the idea of the baby bottle warmer - I have been out to purchase one! Can someone advise me if they use the original oil bottle (obviously this would mean it would get heated several times) or do you decant into another bottle eg.a baby bottle to heat the approx amount?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

I decant my oil into an old oil bottle (cleaned of course)

depends on what sort of treatment I am doing on the ammount - had to thrown a little bit away to start

I got a bottle warmer from boots as recommended by fozzyo
