Treatment for Cutaneous Vasculitis

Hoping someone can help me out with this one please.

I have been doing my case studies and have completed two treatments on a lady who thought she has been badly bitten my insects in her office. She has now had a diagnosis of cutaneous vasculitis and I would like to change my oil choice to try and help her symptoms.

I have trawled the net and really not found anything.

Can anyone suggest a good blend for this lady.

My course stipulates that I can only use a maximum of 3 oils in the blend and no more than eight drops, so could you suggest a blend to stick to this criteria. Other than this she is in very good health.

I will continue to look on the net and let you know if I find anything myself.

Hm. I've just had a read of the Vasculitis Foundation's website and I'm not really sure I'd want to treat this condition at all. Has she had a reaction to any of the oils you've used?

If you do want to go ahead, and it sounds as if this is a case study for a course, then get the GP's thoughts on whether your client should have aromatherapy. (extra brownie points with the awarding body of course)

After that I'm not sure what I'd do. On the one hand, vasculitis "causes changes in the walls of blood vessels, such as weakening and narrowing that can progress to the point of blood vessel blockage" (quote from the website). However, on the other hand, the Arthritis Research Campaign says "When vasculitis affects only the skin the long-term effects are          not usually serious, and the symptoms generally clear up once the          inflammation has settled."

So you could ask her to wait until the inflammation has cleared, and then treat with anti-inflammatory oils and light massage.

Thanks for your reply Chris. This client has checked with the hospital and they have said it is fine to continue with aromatherapy and it is only around her lower legs (ankle area really), I have also massaged very very lightly.

She did say though that her legs had flared up about 3 days after the initial massage but she wasn't sure whether this was due to the oils/massage or not. I did do her massage this week very lightly as the spots she had were fading, I said if she had another reaction this week we would have to re-assess the situation.
