Trapped Nerve

Hi

I have received an enquiry for help in treating a trapped nerve which he/she says is under the shoulder blade and goes from neck to shoulder down to arm and stops at elbow. Has had it for 3-4 months.

How do I treat this? as I have no idea.

I've recommended him to see my osteopath or a physio and also recommended biggazfromlincoln as have no experience in this.

I've had a call from someone complaining of a trapped nerve in the neck following a car crash (his doctor recommended trying massage). I've got some thoughts on how to work on him, but any specific suggestions - short of learning Bowen technique before 6pm tomorrow?!

You could try towel traction which I learned on my remedial massage course, taught to me by the ostopath who trained me. It's easy to do. Have the client lying flat and stand behind his head.
Take a towel and fold it into a wide band then place it under the client's neck. Hold the ends in each hand and take them up over the client's ears and in line with his nose. Now, holding onto the towel, gently lean backwards and take the strain. Hold this for several seconds. This technique helps to gently ease a small gap in the vertebrae and can often release the nerve.

That was a brilliant suggestion, angelfriend - it worked a treat (after I practised it on my wife!) and it is so simple I was able to suggestion the client's girlfriend could try it on him when he is in pain. Thank you so much!
