Training for working with people with cancer

Has anyone been on training for working with people who have cancer. Thanks.

Yes, I have, although mine was specifically aromatherapy massage for people with cancer, which I did with Penny Price. I also did an aromatherapy and palliative care course with the S.E.E.D. Institute.

MSCM also run such courses - I attended one on Reflexology and Cancer Care, but I believe they do a massage one too.

Hi, i have the same problem but am looking for courses in the midlands area that cover reflexology ect with cancer and pallative care.

I did my training with The Christie in Manchester and would highly recommend them. They offer massage, indian head massage, aromatherapy, reflexology etc etc in weekend formats which I found invaluable.
The knowledge that I gained resulted in my getting a 3 year contract with a cancer charity. So well worth the investment of my time and money.

I shall have a look at Christie and see if I can manage it as it is a long way from me in Berkshire.

The other alternative would be to contact your local hospice and offer your services as a volunteer. Many hospices don't expect you to have prior experience of treating cancer patients and will provide in-house training usually free of charge or at reasonable rates.
I'd google nearest hospice and check out what they say on their website and follow that up with a phone call.

You could try contacting the regional group of this organisation National Association of Complementary Therapists in Palliative Care. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

I have received training but this has been provided by the charity I worked for which is no longer doing the great work they provided. I think you may also like to contact the complementary therapy section at The Royal Marsden Hospital as it was one of their massage practitioners that trained me, but I cannot recall her name at the moment. Another trainer who I've also trained with for Aromatherapy and cancer care is Jackie Owens.
