You can call 119, and ask for an English translator. Give 119 your location and tell the interpretor that you got scammed and you are a foreigner. Usually, the police will arrive and resolve this. Those SOB will return your money.

if you played their game but only had a few bucks on you, no credit/atm cards and no phone or watch then their reaction would depend on the style of the scammers. if they're wanna-be mobsters then it might be risky. more likely though if you played dumb and told them with a smile on your face to take your 200 or 300 rmb and call the cops to sort it out, or you'd be willing to wash their dishes, they'd take your few hundred (which is still no small amount to them) and show you the door with a few expletives in mandarin thrown at you.

there was something in the news not long ago where a french guy or guys called their bluff and phoned the cops. the cops sided with the foreigner. whether that's the norm I don't know, but think about it. what cop is gonna say "yeah 3000 rmb is a fair price for a few drinks and some melon, pay up or spread 'em"?

it goes without saying too that the spruikers/"let's have coffee" girls/touts are in on the scam, so don't think you're leaving them with the bill.

i live in SH and i know my way around the city though my Mando is very poor...

just thinking it might be amusing to cruise down to Nanjing EastRoad - get picked up by one of these Englsh learners and go for lots of drinks with them and stuff and just have a good night out.

but just take say 300RMB with me and no cards or id of any kind.

when the inevitable comes in for 2000 US$ or woteva - i say i will settle my own drinks - 300RMB - I just met the girls and they will have to settle their own drinks.

if anyone has any issues we can get the police involved... and of course i have my mobile phone lined up to make the call...

how heavy would they get...? i reckon not very.. this scam is mainly aimed at tourists who are soft targets cos they know nothing of this country...

But you are using the absolute wrong methods and choice of words to communicate these ideas to the people, whom you want to address.

Do not become personal and rude in a public forum towards anyone.
I certainly had not attacked you, I did not even know that you exist, until you had blasted me with your partially correct statements which, however were brought forward in an absolutely unfriendly and offensive manner.
Maybe I would be more receptive for what you have to say (may be some good ideas in you too), IF you were using other words and refrain from some titulations towards me or others.

Concerned said he read the postings on China's street scams and he know what type of scams they were and he voluntarily got scammed.....now who's stupid here? There's no cure for stupidity. Concerned stated he made two mistakes, now the first mistake he made he knew about it and got scammed....I forgive him on the first one but he made another mistake and got scammed again......duh!

Guys, I wouldn't pay too much attention to "mr david". He's almost certainly a back-up alias for the serial troll and BS artist "khuu327" who was banned last month.
