The Complementary Medical Association

Hi there

My boyfriend is looking at studying Sports Massage/Therapy on a distance learning course. The only course that we can find for him to do distance learning is a diploma with Meridian Academy. The diploma is a recognised CMA diploma but is this a recognised Complementary Therapy Board?

Can anyone help??

Hi Jo

There is no such thing as a recognised board in the UK at the moment, these associations are the same as any other trade association a business that is set up to bring people of similar training together under one umbrella.

A lot of these associations are pushing for self regulation and hoping that they will come out on top so everyone has to pay them in order to trade, quite a nice earner it is as well considering the amount of therapists there are in the country ;-)

It might come to the point where their wishes are taken into account and everyone will have to register with them and they will smile all the way to the bank but at the moment it is not required so as long as you have a qualification in your chosen field and have insurance then you can practice.
