the best aromatherapy oils to get?

hi,
i have just passed by aromatherapy course and i wanted to know what are the best essential oils you can have in ones collection, as i would like to try and have something for everyone when i start to get my clients in, so please can you all help me.

I am surprised your tutor did not give you any suggestions but I use Eve Taylor. They do have a web site but this is currently being updated but do try the phone number as I find them very helpful. I have only used this company and so have no experience of any others but have found their service excellent and so are the products i have used. Delivery is very fast too. I placed an order on thursday and it had been delivered by the time I got home from work on friday.

It can be a matter of trial and error, which obviously takes time. I would recommend that you use a supplier who is a member of the Aromatherapy Trade Council http://www.a-t-c.org.uk/

start with a few and know them inside out.......experience how they work also in reality not just from books. I am still learning and find out great ways to use the oils all the time.
Lavender is a great oil underestimated as its one of the first oil we hear about and the oil that many a lay person uses.....so when we qualify alot of us tend to steer clear of it.Dont........ have it,it can be used in a multitude of ways. Tea tree,Eucalyptus glob,Lemon,Peppermint and Geranium,Cham rom...........maybe bergamot..........

i have sorted my supplier out its just i wanted to know what you lot started with and what would be the best oils to start working with, as i am sure you would all agree that no-one wants to turn a client away because they have not got the oils for the job.

some companies do "starter kits" which normally include the most versatile oils
I know Purple flame do, and so do amphora aromatics

I am surprised that you did not have to get oils for your course/case studies. We had to buy all the twenty oils we initially learnt, which was expensive to begin with, but it meant we could use them all through the course - it's the only way to learn.

Would agree with the above, plus perhaps mandarin and peppermint.

Would definately have balsam fir, peppermint, True High Altitude Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Eucalyptus Radiata, Marjoram, Yellow Birch, Rose Otto and Frankinsence in my must have kit.

in answer to the case studies, yes i did have to get some oils to use, but when looking at top notes,middle and base and when you need to help a clients problems i seem to not have all what is needed,but i guess you can't keep everything in stock.

I think you should usually be able to help everyone even with only as few as 12 oils
if you think the major categories you are going to be looking at would be :

Relaxation or Stimulation
Muscular Tension and/or pain relief
nervous tension

Lavender , Rosemary , lemon , Roman Chamomile , neroli or Bergamot should just about cover most eventualities - not very exciting but could certainly do to put together a good blend for most people.

I wouldn't get too hung up about a "particular oil for a particular problem" to me that's the beauty of Aromatherapy , it is so flexible. and you would need to change a blend if they were coming to you regularly anyway.
If you really want to have the exact oil available you could always double check when they call to make the appointment what it is for and then you would have time to get in anything you need before they turn up.
