Thai Massage.........Do you do the prayer?

Just curious how many of you do the prayer to the Father Doctor Shivago before you give the massage? Do you do it in the presence of your clients? What do they think of it?

I'll bite... I don't do Thai massage too frequently, not enough time to practice... :? I say a quiet prayer before each session (any session), never out loud, and its not specific to the Father Doctor, even when I do Thai Massage.

Hi! I don't do thai massage yet, although it looks like a great modality..I do say a little prayer to God silently before every single massage!

I introduced Thai massage to my clients at the end of last year, and I do the prayer before every session. I was a little nervous about what they would think of it, but it was incorporated into my learning of the modality and I really felt like I needed to do it.
I just explained that I was choosing to practice "traditional" Thai massage, and to me that included saying the prayer. Some clients are like, "cool" and it is a nice way to start the session. A few of my other clients are really into it, and want to know the whole translation of the prayer.

That sounds lovely, Noel! I, for one, would be very interested in the prayer and the translation. I love collecting quotations and inspirational pieces from a variety of philosophies/spiritualities. Or is this something you can only get through the traditional Thai training? Wouldn't want to step on any toes!

You've gotten me interested and I would like to learn a bit more background on the subject.

As for learning the Thai version . . . uh . . . doesn't exactly roll off my tongue yet! I love languages -- graduated in French Lit (EONS AGO!) and added Arabic and some Italian -- but the Thai version is truly a mouthful! Makes it even more fascinating to me . . .
