Does any one have any sugestions on marketing or doing teen massage? I would like to offer this in my services and see where it goes. The new spa Im starting at is looking at attracting all clientell. Does this sound good or what?

Hello,I think your idea is excellent. Teens are exposed to so much this day and time and teen massage would be a great service for them. I live in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex and a Spa was recently opened for teens in the Plano area. There was an article in the Massage Magazine about them, not sure the month. They must be doing well due to the idea of expanding to different cities. Go for it!   Kici

I have only worked on teens at their parents request also.  But the ones I have worked on have been athletes or cheerleaders with some sort of reoccuring pain.  You could possibly introduce something to the school.  I use to do chair massages for teachers when they had a mandatory workday.  That went over well but wasn't very often.

No one in our area offers this service. I just thought that it would be a great idea. And this would also be a good starter service for new clinets. I figured that  it would be something to help them start caring about themselfs.

Well may be this is why no one here really advertises teen massage. First the parent has to come in and sign a consent form. duh I guess that really does make sence. Why go to all the trouble Unless you advertise mother and daughter massage at the same time. :-/

Is the parents signature enough?  I was told that if the teen is below a certain age, the parent has to be in the room.  Any info about that or what age do you draw the line?

My observations on the idea...I work out of a tanning salon that hires mostly teens.  Most of them are into gymnastics, cheerleading, and other sports and are very interested in taking care of themselves with regular massage... especially for sore and overworked muscles.  They seemed to already be very aware of the benefits of massage.The biggest consideration that prevents the teens I've come in contact with from scheduling (or scheduling more often) seems to be the cost.  I work on the girls I work with at half-price and they still have a difficult time budgeting for that.  They see me when they're able to convince mom or dad to treat them.

Hello folks I am new to this board.. I do alot of work on teenagersfrom ballet to soccer track and football here is my advise always have the parent sign and stay in the room at all times/ or outside the room with the door open it is safer.. Mike in Illinios

No, Soufin, I didn't go to school in Iowa, I left there when I was 9. I went to Capri College in Madison, WI. They had a Davenport, IA Campus though.Actually I have a young teen client who has been coming to me for 1/2 hr sessions for a couple years now.  Her mother got her a massage gift certificate because the child had taken her parent's divorce hard.She was 10 and a half when she started coming. I was her third "attempt" at finding a Massage Therapist and we get along very well. I had her Mom sign the consent form, and I always speak to the mother afterward.  This young girl is in Baseball and Basketball, and now massages her teammates before games and practices.  She's even thinking of going to MT school after HS graduation.I'm familiar with the article on Teen Massage in Massage Magazine. It's also available online BTW. I think it was one of the spa associations that sponsered it.Teen packages sound like a great deal to me.Especially during the summer here when some teens might have a job to earn an extra bit of spending money... or they are fighting off boredom.It is of course going to depend on where these teens live and what sort of massage therapist or salon they go to.
