I just wanted to share with you guys the amazing experience I today when massaging a relatively new client who gets regular headaches/migraines.
I’d written down an outline of the muscles that I wanted to treat to find the primary trigger points causing her migraines. I started on her back with some myofascial release cross hand stretches and her body was very responsive to it. Within less than 5 seconds the muscles were softening and my hands just seemed to sink in further and move where they needed to go. Then using my thumb I started to look for trigger points in the occipital ridge on her left side. I found some trigger points there and then my thumb just kept moving and it ended up all the way over at her temporalis on the right side. Finally my thumb stopped moving and she said I was exactly on the point where she got her headaches. I was muscle stripping down her erectors and then my fingers just started to move over to her scapula, again when my fingers stopped it was where her trigger points where. I metaphorically ripped up my treatment plan. It felt like I had no control over my fingers and so I just went with the flow to see where I was being led. I had to keep moving my body so that I keep my fingers moving. I felt like a dancer with ballet shoes that just wouldn’t stop dancing. My client enjoyed her session and I said next session I’d just see where her body wanted me to go.
I've only done mysofascial release at an intro level but do intend to do more training in it this year.
I just love the work I do. I am sure that most of you have had similar experiences.
