I got a massage at school a few weeks ago. My therapist had a table warmer on the table. I felt so cozy. Enjoyed it so much that I went ahead and ordered one to use when I start clinic (soon). I was surprised to find out that it's not washable. Hmmm...... I probably should've researched it better.

Here's my question: How can I use this in clinic and be hygenic? If I'm not able to wash it how do I keep it from getting dirty?

Since the heating pad is between the table and your sheets and won't be coming into direct contact with anyone's skin, I typically don't worry too much about mine getting dirty. I don't know what type of treatments you do in your clinic, but if you're doing something like a salt scrub or anything that will cause oil or water to drip through your sheets, I'd take the heating pad off. You can also get a spray bottle with a few drops of citrus oils in it or Dr. Bonner's disinfectant and spray it lightly to keep it sanitized.

If you're into sewing, you could also make a cover for it that you can toss in the wash after your shifts. That way it has the protection of both the cover and your sheet.

Great idea!! I'm not really into sewing, but I'm sure I could come up with something that would work! I'm excited now. I'm trying to come up with things that I can add to the room to make it more of a "spa" like atmosphere. I think it adds to the massage experience.

Not doing anything like this in clinic. Just the basic swedish massage for now. We're supposed to wipe down the table after we take off the used sheets before putting on fresh sheets. I'm thinking I'll have to ask my instructor how that'll work out w/ the table warmer.

I keep a spare fitted sheet over my table and warmer, and just put fresh sheets on top for each session. This keeps any oil that may go through the regular sheets from getting on my warmer, and I can just switch it out with another spare when it needs to be washed.

I put my warmer under my fleece pad. Still gets the table nice and toasty but it's nowhere near the client's skin.

Thank you so much for the input everybody. I think I will use one of my fitted sheets from school over the heater pad. (it fits snug on the table, almost too snug for my liking. This will put it to use) And then put another sheet on top of it (one of the twin sized fitted sheets) I feel better knowing that everything will be fresh, and the heater pad is protected as well.

I work in two places so I have two warmers. One is a "massage table warmer" which is not washable. I do the same thing as some have already mentioned and place an extra fitted sheet over the warmer and under the real sheet. I will hand wash it every so often with a damp, soapy cloth.

The other warmer is a twin sized mattress warmer and it is washable, you simply unplug the cord and throw it in the washing machine. It works just as well as the massage table warmer and was cheaper.

Next time I need to buy a new one, I'm going with the mattess warmer that can be washed.

I plan to do the same thing. I prefer using twin sized sheets rather than "massage table" sheets anyway.

I bought a package deal through MW that included the warmer. After receiving the items I wish I hadn't ordered it at all. I don't care for any of the products in the "deal". I do like the warmer, but disappointed that it isn't washable. Should've done more research before placing the order. Lesson learned! :grin:

I keep mine under a mattress pad.

My table layers look like this:

• Table top
• Old sheet
• Egg crate - twin size (one or two, depending on the table)
• Old sheet
• Table warmer
• Mattress pad
• Pillow/Bolster for knees (I use a pillow)
• Sheet set for client
• Blanket
