swedish massage

Hi, i went to apply to do a swedish massage curse at college tonight, only to be told i need to do myanatomy and phisiolgy course again.
i did this course 5 years ago but the tuto said it has to be done about every tow years to be able to do a course has anyone els found this??

I have just completed my Swedish body massage course and it included doing Anatomy and Physilogy. Do you mean A&P, or do you mean 'Employment Law' etc, which I believe you have to do again, if you have not done it in the last 2/3 years?

blimey, thats terrible. I would hate to have to redo everything, I got my ITEC A&P in 1997 and have no intention of redoing that. I also have been exempt from doing the M1 module, which is now M74/M2.

Its up to you froggy, do you mind re-doing the A&P side of it? If you do, seek out a private college, and do a short intense course, you pay a bit extra, but in my opinion, worth every penny.

Hi again, it s actually my dploma in anatomy and phisiolgy i have been told to do again, i did it in 2001 but hey said if it was not done in the last 2 years i have to do it again.
I m really fed up as all these corses cost so much money, it has put me off.

Is there any way that you can do it simultaneously? Or some private colleges offer a quick course in A & P.

Hope this helps-It's a shame the college are not bending the rules-especially if you have already got it. It seems silly to me as you have the knowledge, it's just your piece of paper that is out of date.

Its strange that when you are at college they don't tell you that your certificates expire do they? I've never heard of this before and I used to teach at colleges albeit on a very part-time basis.
Its industry gone mad isn't it.
Who, in their right mind, is going to enter a career where they do a course and have to re-do the whole course every 2-3 years.

I'm afraid my answer would be to seek out private colleges, check that your certificate is insurable and go with them.

How come your insurance company doesn't void your qualifications every couple of years.

I've been told that my teaching certificate is null and void after 3 years, and that I need to do a 2 year cert ed course. I;m not going to, as if I do it a 2 year course and it expires every 3 years, I'll be for ever in college.

Like everyone else I have not heard of having to re take my a & p course but could it just be that because there has been such a time between that course and massage that the college is assuming that you will have forgotten the basics for their course

dont give up hope - try and speak to a tutor or the head of department and see if you could possibly do a mock paper for them to assess your level of knowledge? If they would consider this then there are plenty of mock papers on the forum for you to brush up on

What is the examination board of the course you are applying for? It sounds a bit strange to me. I work in further education and we have no such policy. The decision is tutor based and students can be APL'ed. You can go direct to the examination board and comfirm what you have been told.

I know of a college in SW Devon (I would rather stick pins in my eyes than work for them) who make reflexology students study A & P with massage, whether they want to do massage or not. As far as the examination body/s are concerned you don't need massage, but want A & P. It's a college decision. I think this is wrong because it's two different skills. It's like saying to herbalists you have to be nutritional therapists whether you like it or not, or Thai yoga massage therapists have to be yoga teachers.

yes that is one option, to be apl (approved prior learning). if the tutor has any sense/knowledge about her, she would be able to perhaps give you a few assignments that are 'new' and you wouldn't have covered in 2001, to come up to her standard.
at the end of the day, for A&P, has anything changed about the respiratory system, endocrine system, skeletal system, etc, etc, that warrants these updates?

I don't believe this is a real requirement. If you have been practicing then it definately is not required. Call me cynical but it's probably just a ploy to get you to sign up to another course with them.
Personally I would look at other courses to see if they ask the same. If they don't go back to the original college & tell them they're talking out of their backsides.
