Swedish Massage Timing Advice

Hi Everyone

I have two assessments left and am in panic about my timings and 'routine'.
Male masssage was fine as I didn't massage the buttocks and stomachwhich easily fits in an hour, but I still struggle with female who wishes to have these two included.

Any ideas?

Were you asked by the client not to massage his buttocks nor stomach? Some of my male clients have really appreciated it especially the latter - very relaxing.
It's the ladies who often refuse abdominal massage! And in other routines the buttocks is compulsory - sports for example (you need to cover muscle insertions as much as possible). But never mind, I suspect it was the taught routine and so comply with your tutor.

There is a timing list in some of the massage books but that would have you looking at the clock and 'not focussing' on your client nor client's needs.
But here's some advice:
Cut down a bit on the thighs and arms. Keep the back to 20 minutes. Put a small clock on your trolley for the occasional glimpse.
You'll get there!

PS the best massage I've ever received was one whole hour totally on the back. Strangely very gentle too but BOY did it work!

Our tutor has a preference to not massage male stomach, buttocks and inner thigh areas on clients she doesn't know or feel comfortable doing.I know my client well for the next one and he'sleaving it up to me so I will try that.
I have had excellent feedback so far, so I think I'm just panicking more over the assessment than doing the massage.
Got a nurse's watch last week which has been handy so far.

Wow a whole hour on your back - I think I could do with that now.

Hi Ellee. Itreally depends on what you tutor expects for your assessment. Reading through this site I am amazed and quite puzzled by the apparent differences in the same course depending on your college or tutor. I was lucky on my course in that we had a change in tutor half way through. I say lucky because the first tutor included buttocks in her routine but not face and head. The second tutor did not include buttocks but did do face and head. Also her back routine was different. We also did not have to follow a routine strictly. as long as we covered all areas the client wanted and use a variety of strokes. On my assessments I used a couple of 'no hands' strokes and some Esalen strokes. Passed my assessments with very positive feedback from client and tutor.

This probably hasn't been much help I'm afraid but it might be worth having a word with your tutor and find out how strictly she wants you to stick to her routine. Your routine needs to beflexible enough to cater for your clients needs.

For timing I use a small clock on my trolley but very rarely look at it.

Massage assessment imho requires asking your tutor, since the objective is to pass your exam. After you pass, the rules change to what's right for the client. If that makes sense. Nothing wrong with adopting this attitude; you are adapting to the situation, which is one of the things a client would want to know you can do anyway.
