stage IV metastatic malignant melanoma

Anyone treat clients with seforum.xxxe IV metastatic malignant melanoma?? I had someone email me. Says she is stiff, tired, and cant sleep.

I do have one client who was in remission for a while and her cancer is now coming back, but it is a differenty type than this. I do know some cancer meds side effects are muscle stiffness.

Any info would be appreciated.

If I were you, I would get more information. How recently was she diagnosed? Is she undergoing treatment? If so, what kind? Has she had surgery? If yes, how recently? If she's not undergoing treatment, is she a hospice patient? (Seforum.xxxe IV Metastatic Malignant doesn't sound like a hopeful prognosis). If she's a hospice patient, is she able to come to the office, or is she looking for a house call? If she's looking for a housecall, is she bedridden, or is she able to get onto a massage table?

She's most likely going to benefit best from relaxation massage. People with severe cancer usually get too sore after deeper work (even if they loved deep tissue therapy before they got sick).

Get as much information as you can before scheduling an appointment.

Have not dealt with metastatic cancer since I was doing my outreach work during massage school -- worked through a hospice at that time. Best advice I can offer is to work gently, away from known tumor sites as much as possible. Also, be aware that some chemo meds can leach through the skin of the patient and can, for sensitive individuals, pose a potential for queasiness from uptaking the meds through contact during massage.

First and foremost, don't be afraid to work on her. She is reaching out to you, because she most likely has been turned away from other people in fear of working on her. Yes, stay away from the tumor sites, some you many not even know they are there, if it has become metastatic. Gentle touch, wherever she is comfortable with and as tolerated for time. Reflexology is usually very good for them to consider as well.
