Sports massage course

Hi all
I am coming to completion of my Swedish technique massage course at Suffolk College and am ready to enrol in the VTCT sports massage course offered at the college. I am opting for this as it is the closest for me and I will have already done a VTCT massage course (the one I am now on.)
Question is what do you think of the VTCT course. Are you, have you, enjoying it and do you think it is worthwhile?

Hi Coolcyclist,

I too am nearing the end of my swedish massage course (VTCT). I've opted to do a Sports and remedial massage course with Scottish Massage Schools (which is based in Edinburgh - so no use to you unfortunately). My college does do the VTCT course, but my tutor recommended this course and Sportstherapy has had some comments on "beauty type" courses. I also liked the fact that you could go on to do Advanced Remedial massage and Manupulative therapy as well.

If you see earlier threads you will see the courses that Sportstherapy has recommended. They aren't cheap though - my course is costing me £750 and I will have accomodation costs on top as it runs for two days on a weekend once a month and Edinburgh is about 2.5 - 3 hour drive for me.

Hello CC,

I am currently doing a VTCT sports massage course. I am enjoying parts of the course but I'm not impressed with the amount we have been taught since September.

It is advertised as a course that enables you to practice as a sports massage therapist but there is no way I would feel confident enough to deal with clients.

I think however the quality of the course varies depending on which college you attend.

I really enjoy the practical side of the course and that is why I plan to do a course in Sept which is more intensive. It won't be VTCT or ITEC.

Thanks for your replies. I had thought of a remedial type course but there isn't one taught locally. The VTCT sports is the only local one. The cost is a consideration at the moment for going outside especially where there is a requirement for weekend attendance. I work a lot of Saturday's and race on Sunday, when I am not studying.
So will give it a go and intend look into other courses later.
