Spike Lavender

Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to use spike lavender neat on this skin. Does the rule of applying neat just apply to Lavendula angustifolia?

The reason I ask is that I've run out of l.angustifolia which I am using for insect bites[] and wondered if I can use my spike lavender in the meantime.

Hello missy,
Thats a new one for me....I would say yes you can use itneat....the only difference i can see is that lav spike is a top note.And it states it relieves painful stings and insectbites....
You could always use neat tea tree...

Hi,

Thanks oakapple and rachel for your replies. I was hoping it was ok to use neat! So, I have been using the spike lavender on my bites and I'm finding it works really well. Would definatey recommend pure lavender (spike and angustifolia) for mossie/insect bites, it's the best thing Ive tried so far, much better than any over the counter remedies. I think it usually takes about 10-20 minutes to take effect but the gives quite a long lasting relief.

Well HOw many types of lavendar oils are available? The one I use has palin lavendar written on it?? How do I check the kind?

Hi Louis, there are a few different lavenders out there! They may have slightly different properties depending on what you have. Probably the best way to check which kind you have is to look for the latin name on the bottle. Sounds like you may have lavendula angustifolia the most commonly used one but spike lavender and lavindin are also popular.

Hi there!

Lavender IS good for bites/ stings etc. Apparently (have not tried personally) Blue Cypress is excellent. It can also be used neat. If you suffer alot may be worth a try, it would be awful if you became sensitised to the lavender!

I use it quiet a lot andmust say it is an excellent oil to own.. I dont think much people would be sensitive to it as its not that harsh..
