sore hands and fingers!

Hi everyone,
I've been really busy this week doing massage and reflexology from morning to night and now i'm starting to feel the effects of it on my fingers, i've been doing my hand exercises before and after each treatment but sometimes i'm getting shooting pains through the knuckles and stiffness throughout, any good ideas on what would help.

Really, for massage, you need to do some hands free movements, at least for some of the treatment. You get far more pressure for a lot less effort using the forearms when you can.

Also, try massaging the hand with a good blend, using something like rosemary, black pepper and ginger.

Hiya Alli

When you are doing a massage try and make sure that your table is not too high and you are not over extending your wrists. If you are them you will be using your strength opposed to your body weight and after time that just is bad for all massage therapists.

You might also want to invest in a wax bath that you can use on your hands at the end of the day... works a treat.

Also use very gentle finger pulls...it's a myofascial technique..... Very gently hold your finger with the other hand... wait for about 30secs.. then very gently... hardly any pressure .. pull on your finger... add in a slight rotation too... it feels great.. spend about 4-5 mins per finger.

Also, sometimes you get sore hands from trigger points in the shoulder and arm... go get a good massage!!!

Thanks guys, Never thougtht of the bed being too high! I've been using one of these new electrical ones and I think i got carried away with being able to adjust height and everything, like a child with a new toy! I'll lower it and do more exercises
