In Singapore, if you get caught committing any kind of crime with a firearm, you get hanged. There are no second chances. They take you right out of society for good.
As a result, Singapore has an incredibly low murder and violent crime rate, despite being very dense and very diverse. Singapore has over five million people and had 18 cases of murder in 2011.
Compare that to the American state of Louisiana, which has only 4.5 million people, but recorded 510 murders in 2010.
As you can see, the American approach to crime control has failed. We need a new model. Why not Singapore's approach?
