Schools in Illinois

I posted this in the schools section too. Has anyone heard of the School of Holistic Massage & Reflexology located in Downers Grove? I am going there this week to see what they are all about. According to their website, they sure seem like a good school. They offer classes in the evenings two nights per week from 6 pm - 10 pm and you finish in a year. To me, that seems pretty manageable since I also work full-time.

I had checked into Olympia College in Burr Ridge and wasn't too thrilled with their rigorous schedule (6 pm - 11 pm, Mon. - Thurs.) for 9 months.

Any information you can provide on the school in Downers Grove is appreciated!

I haven't heard of the Downers Grove school yet but they are popping up all over around here. I hear a massage school is about to open up in Westmont too. Have you checked out the Woodridge school? (Wellness and Massage institute) They are affilliated with C.O.D and have the best reputation around here.
There is also a good school in Lombard- I can't remember the name right now. I agree with what you said about Olympia.

I just moved to Plano from Naperville so I'm now out of the C.O.D. district so I'm attending Waubonsee Community College. So far so good! I'm about to finish up my pre-req's.

The School of Holistic Massage and Reflexology has been around for about 10 years. They aren't accredited with any of the massage associations, but the owner told me, "That's all political anyway. We still have a school code that you use to take the National Exam and 99.9% of my graduates have passed it on their first try." It's very small and only allows 8-9 people per class.

I happen to agree with him on the accrediation part. I actually think this school is better than the ones that are accrediated!

I may go see the school in Woodridge too and see what they have to say. I have also heard a lot of good things about them too.

I'm one of the last graduates of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, right before Cortiva put their name on it. There were some growing pains (to say the least) during the transition, but from what I hear the dust has settled and things are much better.

The curriculum was great, and there was a LOT of real life experience that you pick up through their course (many hours of volunteer work as well as working with the public in the student clinic.) YES it's hard work, but if you work hard and want it, you can do it. I managed the 12 month course (2 days a week from 9:00-5:30 + homework, volunteer work, clinic...) while working a part time job and raising 3 kids. OH - It was about an hour commute on the train for me to get there too. The experience was incredible, and a year later I'm still in contact with some of my classmates - just incredible people. In fact, I just went back there last weekend for a continuing ed class.

If nothing else, I believe they have a freebie intro class you might want to check out.

Northwestern Business College

Well, I tried to apply for a private loan through Sallie Mae on my own and with a co-signer and was denied. I really don't understand why except for having a bankruptcy about 3 years ago. They say you have to wait about 5 years after a bankruptcy to be able to get private loans again.

Anyway, I am going to look at Northwestern Business College because they have night coures. I can't quit my full-time job because I need the benefits and salary, so I can't be going to school 9-5 during the day.

I went to Illinois Central College and I was the 2nd year to go through and graduate.. We had class Tuesday and Thursday nights and all day Saturday. It worked out great since I work full time during the day.
