Sample treatments

Just wondering how you guys "condense" a full treatment into sample treatment for fairs etc. Don't usually do reflexology at fairs but have been asked to do some sample treatments at one I am working at on Sunday.

As always, any tips greatly appreciated!!

I am studying reflexology at the mo so I have no experience of giving samples, but here is what I think.

As I understand it people are helped into recovery by obviously working on the reflexes and also by the feeling of relaxation. The reflexes are individual to the client's particular symptoms so unless there is a particular problem this will take too long. Also many symptoms will take at least three sessions for an improvement to appear.

So depending on time I would do lots of relaxation techniques, then work on the solar plexus and pituitary gland at least. Toe rotations and criss-cross over the sole. Of course working on the bladder and kidneys often make people start to believe in reflexology!

I would love to hear what the experienced therapists advise and how you get on.

hi sarah,

i have done a few of these taster type treatment stints. i generally reckon on 15 mins, so after making sure there are no glaring health probs i should know about, i do, as russ says, relaxation techniques, work the toes, shoulders, spine, solar plexus, finish with a nice massage (lol they all like that bit best... makes ya wonder why ya bother!).

if i have time, i might throw in some linking techniques or endocrine balance. we have discussed these on the forum before, FYI, but if you dont know them, dont worry as they are not standard techniques but further learning stuff. )

Enjoy it Sarah. It's fun doing mini treatments as you get to meet all sorts of different people in a short period of time. The treatments go down very well and everyone seems to enjoy them very much.

I'm giving taster treatments at our local NCT's Good As New sale next month. The charge for the pitch and for stuffing my leaflets into the carrier bags they will give out is reasonable. I'll probably hold a little prize draw too, and will have gift vouchers to sell.

Just to let you know, I had a great day. Generally, it was quiet (+ 7 stands didn't show up - they didn't even notify the organiser, how bad is that?) but I had a constant queue of people for ..... IHM!!

I was really chuffed when we one woman said that if she won the lottery she would buy me!! I won't hold my breath but would settle for a few appointments in the meantime. [sm=rollaugh.gif]

I've been asked to do a ladies night for PTA next week, I was thinking of offering IHM, reflex, aroma facials and hand massage, although I do beauty treaments as well I really want to try and promote the holistic side of business, would I be better doing beauty and holistic or just holistic, also It's going to be just 15 mins sessions and they want to know my prices, I don't have a clue what to charge
Please anybody any ideas!

if you want to promote holistic, just do IHM and reflex. how long will you be doing it? 2 - 3 hours? do you want to get into messy facials... theres a lot of changing water involved and mess.

you may only see 10 or so people. have lots of leaflets though. i did it at a school fayre and charged £3 a go. some people gave me a fiver and let me keep the change! you could try £5... its an evening thing, afterall.

Depends on how much the PTA are charging you to be there. I would charge between £5 and £7 for a 15 minute session. Having said that, when I did a fair the other week, there were five of us offering therapies and we had all paid quite a lot for the day (for a local event), and so all decided to charge £10 for 15 minutes which I thought was quite a lot. However, we were all pretty busy during the day, so there are always people willing to pay.

I don't know about anyone else, but I seem to spend ages the week before, preparing everying, printing off all my leaflets and making up creams and lotions and you have to take this into account also.

it gives me an idea, I thought about maybe £5-6 per session, the PTA have asked me for a donation as far as I know they are looking for about 10% which I thought was fine, any ideas on what I could sell to boost sales

Advice please-
I'm having an evening of sample treatments to generate custom. This would just be for IHM & Reflex. Would you advise doing a consultation with signature and giving a home care advice sheet? What would you consider being a suitable treatment for these two procedures, lasting about 15mins? I thought of charging roughly £5 to £10. Your thoughts would be appreciated and any other issues to take into consideration.

Hi Longton.

I think you should stamp your professionalism on this night. So a quick consultation is a must, with a 15min treatment working on general areas, then just ask general questions on the areas you know you'll work on.

Personally do a quick warm up massage, pituitary gland, chest area, solar plexus, scan over the intestines, bladder & kidney and massage over the dorsal aspect and ankle.

An after care card would be great, if they have a bad experience they'll never call again! Putting your number on the back would allow them to call you with any worries they have and hopefully book a full appointment.
