Rusty Post-grad seeking advice

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and am looking for some help. I have had my ITEC qualification in A&P/Holistic Massage for a number of years but between one thing and another never made the transition into a career as a therapist.
I want to become a therapist now but have not given a massage in a long time and my skills are extremely rusty. I am currently studying up on my old course notes and have signed up for a course in on-site massage. I am just looking for some advice on getting back into the swing of things...or is it too late?

Never too late. Go back to your case studies, re read and then ask family and friends if you can do a trial case study on them to get your confidence up, get used to filling in consultation forms again and get the much needed practice in massage again. Practise makes perfect. Make sure you are fully insured and up to date with first aid etc. Do lots of practice and then when you feel ready go for it. I am learning each time and have been seeing clients for massage since April. We never stop learning, good luck!

I agree with Jane on most things but I am afraid that practice doesnt necessarily make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect, If you are unsure about your skills then utilising family and friends would be a start however you may get more out of a refresher weekend or an introductory weekend where the skills would be retaught and focus regained,

Thanks you for the advice. I have been looking for a refresher course but so far have been unable to find anywhere in Dublin that does one. However, I am currently doing a course in Indian Head Massage which is really helping me to get back into the therapist headspace. I've organised a massage exchange with a classmate who has just graduated in Holistic Massage so she will be able to help familiarise me with the strokes again and point out where I'm going wrong.

I'm certainly not rushing into this. I want to have my technique perfect before I start charging clients. Otherwise I'll just feel like a fraud. Lots of freebies first.
