Hiya Louise.
There are only a few Rolfers in the UK.
It began by a German woman called Ida Rolf in the 50s I think. There is a Rolf institute in Munich and the main one is in Colorado, USA.
It can also be called structural integration. Normally therapsist work on a 10 session technique basis with each session having a focus.. but not always.
Tom Myers author of Anatomy Trains, Myofascial Meridians, is an advanced Rolfer and teaches the foundation level in Munch, at least. He has taken Ida Rolfs work and formulated his own concept called Kenisis Myofascial Integration.
Many other soft tissue mobalisations have spurred from Rolfing. Actrive Release Therapy, Soft Tissue Release and Myofascial Release, traditional and modern, amongst others.
It can be very effective but not always pleasant to recieve. Areas of restriction, when Rolfed, can burn like a chinese rope burn. This is the fasical adhesions stretching and breaking up and circulation rushing in.
Enjoy your treatment.
