Rio Aroma-stream oil vapouriser/aromatherapy oils - how to use?

I have just been given one of those electronic aromatherapy oil vapouriser thingys, but I don't have a clue how to work it.

There is a bit that you can unscrew at the bottom that has a kind of pad thing - do I just sprinkle a few drops of the oils onto the pad? or do I buy the pads pre-scented?

Sorry if this is a silly question.
Also, can I use any oils with it - or does it have to be a certain type.

I have saw oils in the Body Shop that I would like to try.
