Removing oil

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right category to post this in so I apologise if it isn't. I would just like some advice if anyone has any. The floor in my treatment room is sort of cheap laminate stylee- not entirely sure what it's proper name is Anyway, oil obviously goes on the floor and on top of this clumsy old my spilt quite a lot on the floor recently. I have mopped and mopped and tried different things- bleach, Cilit Bang etc. I still can't get all of these stains out. Anyone got any suggestions what I could mop or clean the floor with?

You could try dishwasher powder ... made to remove grease/oil and works with towels

I use basic supermarket surface cleaner and it works fine.

Orange hand cleanser gets sump oil (from gearboxes) off all sorts - you get it in machinery parts shops, Halfords, etc. My OH gets really mucky with the farm machinery. Swarfega is another brilliant oil solvent, but doesn't smell as sweet!

Orange essential oil, (which is how Orange Hand Cleanser works). though I'd be careful to not let it get between the cracks between the boards (when you say laminate, I'm assuming the fake floor boards....)

The biggest problem will probably be that since you've used bleach etc, you might've taken the protective coating off the laminate, making it more porous and an uneven finish. Not sure how you can fix that issue if it's contributing.

Hi - some essential oils do stain really badly! Would suggest if you do get it clean that you immediately re-seal it with a good quality floor or waterproof yacht sealer - ronseal or johnson's I think are the best brands - you just paint them on (but, from previous experience, they seem to take longer to dry fully than the instructions say, especially if you are then putting furniture on them - like your plinth-legs where the weight is concentrated on a very small area!)

I am assured that Epsoms Salts make a good degreaser, and also for tunics

ooh - thanks for the epsom salts tip - despair of getting whites properly white after oil splashes. Worst is chamomile!
