Reflexology for a paralized client?

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone could advise on the best way to give reflexology to a client who has was in a severe car accident which left her paralized 6 years ago?

hi meeko,

i have never had to do this but i do remember my teacher saying, and she was a great believer in subtle energies, that one could even do reflex on where an amputated foot would have been. whether this works or not, i have no idea.

if you client is willing, why not give a full treatment on the feet anyway? it certainly shouldnt do any harm and could be of benefit.

I'd treat them in exactly the same way as someone who has got feeling in their feet.

I have a client i have been seeing for nearly a year who is also wheelchair bound 2 years after a road traffic accident have had outstanding results with reflexology and massage.

Dont be surprised when you work on the client the paralysed areas will be incrediably cold but after you work on them they can get quite hot!

Hi there Meeko,
Personally I would be gentle & light at first as there isnt much natural movement thus a reflexology treatment may be a little powerful to begin with & may even cause a mild but unecessary healing crisis etc
if too intense..which with somebody paralysed wouldnt take much of a treatment -
and as there isnt the movement it is more difficult to remove/flush the toxins released . The client cant drink as easily as we can nor excrete as quickly if necessary...thus to many toxins may be flooding the blood stream but the body cant cope quickly enough. .. however you will be able to tell very quickly as you begin your application .. the feet will respond & my guess you will instinctively feel what pressure is needed & how much time is possible for comfort on all areas.
The energy field i think is vitally important especially on the amputated area ..phantom pain..the leg can still hurt even though its been removed...this is the subtle energy field. Plus remember if there is an aputation, you can also use cross reflex to treat.
