Recommend Good books,Good Music,

:-*Would anyone out there recommend any good books for beginners? I am going to school in a few months and would like to get a head start. Also, I am looking for good meditation music so that I can really start getting in to a good place. Any suggestions?

So hard to make a recommendation on books, not knowing where you want to get started.  Do you want to learn about the career of massage in general, or do you want to get started learning medical terms and anatomy?  I would find out what books will be required at your school and pick those up and begin glancing through them.  It is hard to get started learning on your own without knowing what sort of order the classes will be taught in.  If you're anxious to get going, I would start out reading about the massage field in general.  Some books that might be good for this are:"Massage:  A career at your fingertips" by Martin Ashley"Massage Therapy Career Guide" by Steve Capellini"Mosby's Fundamentals of Therapeutic Massage"I wouldn't panic about anything too much.  You will learn what you need to know in school.  Studying Anatomy and Physiology on your own could get to be confusing.

I've been wondering about books to get started too. I know some people have said they studied ahead of time. But I kinda agree with the previous post that it could be confusing without help from a teacher. Does your school have a list of requierd books?  That may be a good start place.  I will start school in Sept & I am going to pick up maybe one or two on the list ahead of time. If nothing else thats one more expense spread out. I'll use them even if I never touch them this summer. Maybe I can just lay my hands on them and beam the info into my head!

Great question for anyone getting into massage! There are some great books out there.I went into the school I was planning to attend and they had a book store with labels stating which books were for which classes. I bought the books for the classes I knew I'd be taking and started there.

If I were you I'd find the list of books that you'll be required to buy and pick up a few of those. You could have fun checking them out in advance

There are thousands of good books out there, and a lifetime to read them. If you're just heading into school, go to your library now and find all you can on oriental medicine.  Start reading it now! little by little on top of your other studies. It may not be your favorite, or apeal to you at all, but you'll be glad you made the effort on the back-end.   Then, try all the stuff these beautiful people are offering you. I'm sure it's all wonderfull stuff. Congratulations on choosing massage! You're in for a beautiful journey.
