Received my first Rosen session

Had a session today from a Rosen intern. Amazing.

The work itself was simply pleasant... light to medium touch, no lubricant. I didn't have very much, if any, emotional energy come up. We talked about some potential body-mind explanations/connections to what I was aware of. It was interesting to note where he was working on my body when I lost presence and started to space out.

My practitioner had an absolutely lovely touch, which made the session worthwhile even if simply receiving that level of touch had been the only benefit!

As he was finishing, he noted that he could feel a small opening/release happening in my chest.

The surprise came after he finished and left the room, and I rolled over to lay in a fetal position for a while, as is my custom after receiving most any kind of work.

I became aware of a set of feelings, mostly centered in the chest... a fear, and a deep hunger for connection. I was put in touch with a foundational theme of my incarnation on this planet (if you really want to know more, read about Seven in The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram). As I felt into the sensations, the flip side made itself known: the joy of life, of discovering and creating it each day.

This work went deep, underneath ego, psychology, history... this was soul work.

I am most impressed... will let you know how the next session goes.

Had my second rosen session today.

Different experience than the first... stuff actually came up, nothing dramatic, but I did get a little teary at one point.

It was interesting how thoughts, feelings, or memories would come up... and they would relate back to other things that had come up, but in non-linear ways. This was not a rational, sequential process... but a very creative and insightful one, bringing up old stuff to be examined and connected with current stuff.

There was also some subtle physical releasing... I don't quite know what my neck was doing when he was holding it, but it was not calm or still at first.

I felt really good afterward, energized.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Rosen Method. I'm really interested in trying this method for myself, but there is nobody in my area that practices it I'm convinced I'm really living in the wrong geographical place to explore the areas of bodywork I'm really interested in. Hearing other's experiences is the next best I guess, but my body wants the real thing! Do you think you'll go for another session?

Quite welcome, healingtime. And thanks for reflecting back... believe it or not, I sometimes feel something similar.

One of the downsides of all the freedom we have as bodyworkers here in CA is that, with CEUs not required, many people aren't as interested in them. Well, that's my perception anyway. I'm surprised at the lack of practitioners in my area in a number of types of work.

Yeah, I will absolutely go back. I may go to one of their introductory talks as well.

Yes, I'm surprised to hear there is any lack of practitioners for any number of types of work, in CA. I figured you pretty much had your pick of most anything there. I'm in the midwest. I've found that for the midwest St. Louis, Mo. seems to be a sort of midwestern "hub" for a variety of more "obscure" modalities. Unfortunately, it would still take quite a bit of planning and cash for me to get there, before even paying for the work.

Anyway! I don't want to sidetrack your thread!! It's really great that you have Rosen practitioners near you, and I'm excited to hear how the process with it goes for you! Also, if you go to an introductory talk. Has your Rosen therapist used any of the Movement aspects of the modality with you? I was wondering how that gets incorporated in practice, though I guess how each individual therapist incorporates it might be different?
