Reading Feet

I am reading my way throughtherecommended books for my course. I am currently reading 'Language of the Feet' by Chris Stormer.

How many of you read feet?

Hi footsie,

I read feet prior to doing a reflexology treatment on someone, I am an itec student at the moment doing case studies. We look at colour, tone, texture, smell, lines, mobility etc.

I am interested is that book good, has it got a lot of detail on different aspects of reading the feet? I would be interested in getting a copy if it is. Our course only covers the very basics I would like to read something a bit more indepth on this.

I've tried it a little book and have the Chris Stormer book - I find it fun and quirky but find the pictures too fussy to really get to what he means and kind of loose interest in going too deeply. I think I would get a lot more from going to a course on it and seeing proper pics - or if the book had a little foot chart so I could see what things meant for sure..

I do all the usual observations of the feet but not the personality side..

I have used this book quite extensively in my case studies as I found that it did often relate to people's emotions/personalities. It also gave me more to write about in the case study. I find her books really good and did use her books when I was doing the case studies. There is also another one by Renee Tanner which offers much of the same kind of thing. I do look at people's feet before each treatment as they do change. It does take more time but can give you some extra information. There are courses for this kind of thing and I would like to go on one in the Autumn.

I think it is great that you are getting into Foot Reading. This is a fabulous addition to our skills. It is an amazing way to connect with your clients and what may be going on "behind the scenes". There is so much that we can tell from the feet (and shoes) of the client. It can tell us if they are coping (or not coping), what their strengths and weaknesses are. It frequently makes me smile when I see something on the clients' feet that is totally consistent with what is happening in their lives. I also find it very helpful when monitoring how well the client is doing. We can see if their emotions have calmed down , if they are more able to take action or even if they are feeling more confident. There are huge amounts of information that we can glean from their feet (and our own!!) I have been doing this for years and include this in mytuition formy Gentle Touch Reflexology students. I love it so much (and the results) that I also run courses on it! I ama real fan of foot reading as Ihave been doing it now for about 10 years and think that it is invaluable. I treat lots of clients every week and know that without foot reading, my life as a reflexologist would be all the poorer!I love it and hope that you do too. Keep going and enjoy the benefits.

This little book came as a surprise to me, but it makes interesting reading. I fully agree with Gussies comment about the pictures though. I am just readingsome of the text booksbefore I start my course in September.so perhaps somebody else might bemore qualified to either recommend this book, or a betteralternative.

Don't forget Jane Sheehan, who has an excellent book out on this subject, and also does fascinating workshops all over the country. Check out her website for dates & venues.

BTW - Chris Stormer is a she, and she has other books, one "Reflexology: The Definitive Guide" is better written and doesn't have the cartoons like "Language of the Feet" does.
