Reading another thread got me thinking what are recession-proof jobs/profesions

Besides Doctors, Lawyers, accountants and engineers what are recession-proof jobs. Also what do seasonal workers do when their job is expired?.

Lawyers, engineers and even some accountants are NOT recession proof.

Some of these do NOT pay well, but they are usually stable-

Trustees in bankruptcy, good collectors, military, police, firefighters, vulture capitalists, TOP Sales,

And I mean TOP. As the wise man said:

Publicly-funded school system teachers

Farmers in cash crops (especially 420, LOL!)

Virtually any government or quasi-government job.


Seasonal workers - It depends on their income, of course.

I know owners of golf courses who buzz off to their winter homes in Florida, Turks & Caicos, etc. Other staffers use the offseason to travel and backpack the world.

Many lower-income seasonal farm workers are migrant. They'll travel from place to place to work the crops when it's harvest time.

If they're smart, seasonal workers will find a complementary off-season income source. Like the landscaper who has a basement finishing gig for the winter.

Well sex workers are obviously not recession proof because people can easily cut down on sex, but I would agree that pretty much almost any government job gives you better chances of keeping you up. Again not all but most.

Professional Athletes with minor or major league contracts.

Depending on the job/employer/union etc but many I know (construction etc) bank overtime over the summer and get a regular pay check. With their banked OT sometimes 40hrs a week, they will use to pay them over the winter.

Others use their skills and work in all seasons, a machine operator can dig a trench with a backhoe over the summer and clear bus stops etc during the winter for snow removal.
